I am in the Miltary and they use JP-8 on jets, helicopters, and the 6.5L HUMMWV's. What is the make up or contents of JP-8? Whats in this fuel to where it won't gel up? Cause all of us that were in the Military know that alot of Military vehicles sit for for quite awhile before getting new fuel in the tank.

It is jet fuel that can be inside the wing of a plane and be exposed to -58'F with out jelling up.
I find it strange that there is a winter and summer blend of JP-8. But is good till -58'F.
The summer blend is yellow, the winter blend is clear as water.
In AGE we put it in all kinds of diesel engines and they run fine.
But none of the equipment uses high pressure common rail injection.
Also JP-8 can contain lead.
Yes equipment does sit for a long time with JP-8 in its tanks. Years form some equipment.

Dry Diesel!

worked at the airport fueling for a while....

the winter blend simply went to cooler temps... somewhere down in the -60's or -70's before gelling.

as to the fuel itself....It's basically a highly refined kerosene more than a diesel fuel. At wirk they ran it in all the diesel vehicles but you had to be careful because the ones that used the fuel to lubricate engine parts, eg fuel pumps etc would burn out parts real fast due to low lubricity properties.

I know a lot of the trucks used for fueling aircraft would have mechanics dumping ATF into the fuel tanks regularly for lubrication properties.

Apparently, some of the trucks had fuel pumps lubricated by the engine oil system and were not affected as much.

Just my .02.

ATF is a bad idea, better off using 2-cycle oil to lubricate, not to mention ATF is not made to be combustible.

dmax will run fine on JP-8 with no mods.

I suppose Jet-A would be fine too...
