The HIR low beam bulbs replacements have gone up to $23.99 from $9.99, so the demand generated from this forum got somebody's attention at John Deere marketing. They (HIRs) are on back order at JD until mid-Feb.
Oh well, I got one pair cheap anyway.

I hope they order a crap load and won't be able to sell them. It would serve them right for raising the price. :)

FYI....

After reading your post I called our local Canadian JD dealer today and ordered two more (for the wifes car) John Deere AH211917 HIR bulbs, the cost is still the same up here. List price is still at $14.38 per bulb (Canadian) or @ $12.25 US per bulb.

They currently have two sets on order for other BC/Canadain customers and tell me that their special order HIR bulbs are from the US shipped to Canada in @ 3-5 days.

They have not heard anything about such a price increase !!

How well are they working and are they better than Silverstars? Whiter? More light? Longer lasting?

I read through my thread that I started but I cant seem to get a decent answer.

I've been following that thread; I haven't seen a straight answer either. I'd be interested to know myself.

I doubt it would vary by $13, but JD parts pricing CAN vary a lot dealer to dealer. Cost prices aren't exactly cheap, but many dealers mark them up by huge margins. I used to work for a JD dealer in CT, so can't say exactly how much, but price variations of >50% wouldn't be unheard of.

Here's the best answer that I can give...on my truck I upgraded to the JD/HIR's from the factory GM bulbs I find the lighting projection on the road and beyond much better than the factory bulb range, the pattern is also more focused on a concentrated area in front of the truck. Standing in the front with the lights on the bulb "colour" appears to be the same as stock. So I have not had a problem with oncomming vehicles flashing their lights at me.

In my Astro...a little different story, I had removed high oputput / short life 80watt "World Blue" bulbs and also found the HIR bulbs to provide better lighting projection and concentration over the 80watt bulbs. Again standing in front, the lights do not appear "bright white" in colour but "shine' for their actual "on the road" performance.

Reported tests claim HIR bulbs were 33% more light than stock, I feel this is an accurate statement, Silverstars claimed 20% better light and actual tests did not confirm this, althought the light colour was "whiter"

As for bulb life span, my 80 watt world bulbs needed replacing every 3-6 months, Silverstars are rated for 150hours, Ultra's are rated for 195hours and HIR's are rated for 800 hours

And in light output measurement tests HIR bulbs produced 1800 Lumens, Silverstars produced 910 Lumens, and Ultra's produced 1000 Lumens. IMO I would not say that HIR's are twice as good (or bright) as Silverstars I feel that this higher Lumens rating is because of the much better projected light pattern the HIR's produce in a concentrated area directly in front of the vehicle.

In summary...your answers.

HIR's better than Silverstars, for my driving use based on many others owner s feedback Yes.
HIR's whiter ? No
HIR's more light ? Yes more usable pattern concentrated in front.
HIR's longer lasting ? Yes (as per reported test results, not proven with me yet)

New news..Canadian HIR stock now in Back orders

As an update to an earlier post today, I had ordered two more JD /HIR bulbs, my local JD dealer called this afternoon to tell me that even Canada wiil be effected by the lack of the HIR bulb inventory.

Expected delivery date for Canadians will now be early March.

Again I asked about any price changes...and the answer was No, none communicated from their supply warehouse contact at this time.

But as they say...time will tell

Very happy with mine. Will call tomorrow to see if I can get another set for wifes AV to take place of silverstars. They have a better light pattern on black roads in rain and humid, misty situations.

Quick 6 Racing had a very nice write up. Just wanted to add my .02. Bought 2 sets of the 9005 style for my highs and fogs. They are not as white as I was looking for since I have HID's in my lows, but they have a much better pattern. Overall I am happy with them. Also would like to recomend Max lumens from ebay for them.

Had time to call around today and found a J/D dealer that had to order them, 3 day's delivery @ $9.99 per bulb. I did NOT question the price as the other dealer that had them in stock quoted me $23.99 per. If I pick them up monday at that price I am going to order some more for spare.

I just paid $50.00 per 9005/9006 box at Walmart for my Silverstar Ultra's!!! Dont get me wrong but for the lite they put out, i'm not shure if $50.00 a box is accurate. They are incredibly bright and have great projection, more so because I have the high beam mod.

Anyone got a JD P/N for the 9005 and 9006's?

JD only sells the 9006 low style bulb # AH 211917

You will need to search ebay for High beam HIR's

I love em ! Put in the JD HIR's and the GM (2002 Avalance) bulbs - typically I get flashed (on low beam) about every 5th car - hehehehe !!! Thanks guys for all the info.

p.s. - I fluked out, the JD bulbs were also on back order - but the dealer happened to have some used lens (complete with bulbs) for $10 each - needless to say, I took all 4.
