When Chrysler bought Jeep they immediately stopped producing Jeep trucks out of fear it would cannibalize Dodge truck sales.

Now under the parenting of Mercedes do you think they will start to make Jeep trucks again?

I’m fairly certain the new Dodge Nitro is a re-skinned Liberty.

Will Jeep make another truck?

How about an H1/Jeep/Land Rover defender styled, you know, the industrial, “forest service truck look”

I would think that would be really awesome. Super functional, no frills, hardcore.

I could see then building it on a Ram chassis, maybe even with the Cummins I6!

They didn't imediately stop building the COMANCHE. CHRYSLER took over AMC late 87 but the COMANCHE didn't come to a halt until the end of 91(hence why there are some 92 COMANCHES running around). The JEEPS were taking a large margin share from the DAKOTA though, so you seen what happened. Heaven forbid if a company you took over produced a vehicle that got better milage, handles better and would flat outrun it. So out went the COMANCHE, and stayed the DAKOTA. CHRYSLER is famous for making a vehicle with poor options to phase something out. The last of the COMANCHES were primarily 5 speed models and 2 wheel drives to drop sales numbers.

I am hopeful that Mercedes will seize the opportunity to put some of the smaller European Diesels in both a JEEP truck and the Wrangler series. This would rejuvenate the JEEP in the USA in a big way. All they have to do is a little market research and test the market with one model.

I would also hope they would replace the CRD in the Liberty with one of the Mercedes diesels.

I still currently have a 77 Jeep J10 4x4 with the 360V8 T-10 Four speed and 4.56 Detroit locker.
I removed the four barrel card and installed a Holley throttle body fuel injection. I has been sitting idle for awhile and I need to get it back running again in the spring.

Look at the AEV site. The have been making Jeep trucks for a while now, Brutes. There is a story about how DC is going to start making them again and how DC was going to make them in '03, but something happened.

As far as diesels, the '08 Wrangler is supposed to be getting a 3.0 Mercedes diesel, from what I understand. I am not going to hold my breathe.

If the '08 Wrangler will come with a 3L Mercedes diesel, I want to put my name on the order list now. I will be checking with the local Jeep dealer, but I won't be holding my breath either. If the Wrangler will be running a diesel, I hope the differentials will be upgraded commensurate with the increased torque.

With Daimler Benz looking to sell Chrysler group, I wouldnt bet on too many new models coming for any of the chrysler brands until well after a new owner takes over.

And you can bet any plans for putting Mercedes engines in Chrysler/dodge/jeep vehicles has been scraped.
