I just acquired a 6.2 engine and put in my truck i don't know if it is a J-code or C-code. I have VIN# from the truck i took it out of. the numbers are 1GTGR24J7HS523051 can anyone help with this. I am new to the diesel world. The engine has no emissions on it. It is an 87 out of a 3\4 ton 2wd.

The eigth digit of the vin says "J". Most 3/4 and one ton trucks had the "J" installed. To be certain pull the air cleaner off and look into the intake, if there is no EGR in there you can be pretty well assured it's a "J"

I had the intake off when i swapped the engine and there wasn't an egr in the intake. I thought it was a "J" but didn't know i am still new to this. I also have a problem with acceleration when i am driving and shift up a gear it takes a long time to pick up rpms. But when i let off some and have part throttle it takes off better. I think the advance is bad but not sure.
