hi, i was at my local wrecker today and found a 84 k5 blazer witha 6.2 diesel in it, it looked like it got t-boned and since i have seen it driving round town beofre im pretty sure the engine is ok  .

anyways, it hada j code manifold so i pulled that for my blazer. now im wondering is this engine a c code with a j code manifold or has a j code been transplanted into it?

what should i look for to be able to tell? i wanna pull some parts off it if it is a j code( specifically the injector pump, but if there is anything else that would be good to have let me know :))

I guess since the motor might not be original, you don't know for sure the year of the engine. Type of glow-plug controller, type of bottom crankshaft pulley, and type of starter-motor might give a hint to the engine vintage. 1988 was the last year GM used direct-drive starters on any of their diesels - after that they were all gear-reduction. GM changed over from a solid-steel bottom crankshaft pulley to a rubber-cushioned pully late 1985. With glow-plug controllers - GM used the "fast glow thermal" system from 1982 - 1984. This system has the controller installed into a cylinder head with a separate relay. 1985 and up 6.2s use a untized relay/controller mounted at the central-rear of the engine.

Here's a list of 1984 injection pumps. Note that any pump with 1.2cSt at the end has an Arctic cold-weather/thin fuel option installed.
