I'm replacing the 350ci gasser with a 6.2 diesel in a short wheelbase 1/2 ton pickup, the truck is very light because it is all fiberglass except for the cab. I'm running a 700r4 transmission with a 2.73 rear end. This pickup will never be used to tow anything its just a daily driver although I do live in Florida and it gets very hot.

Does the 6.2 diesel require an oil cooler or can I leave it off. I would like to eliminate the clutter of hoses and the cooler.

I'm new to diesels and would like your imput...thanks

I recommend using an oil cooler with the 6.2. That's not to say that it can't be run without it (it can), but I agree with patracy... I wouldn't run one without it, especially in a warm part of the earth (I don't - it's 12 degrees here and I just came in from a ride on an old '72 Suzuki ):h )...

There's a lot more going on in your crankcase than in a gasser, because of the high 21:1cr of your 6.2.

Run the engine oil cooler - you won't regret it.

Nice shiny chrome one from B&M, stainless lines - adds 10mph to any vehicle, eh?

Ok, you guys convinced me I'm going to run the oil cooler.

I don't have the stock cooler just the hoses so I'm going to try and pickup an aftermarket cooler that will connect to my oil line fittings.

Any suggestions on which aftermarket cooler or it doesn't matter as long as its for a full size truck.

Hit your local boneyard, get an original, with pipes and hoses.

FYI - your short double-row gasser rad won't cool the 6.2, so if you find a 6.2 rad, both oil coolers will be internal, for much less clutter

An aftermarket cooler would be fine as well... I don't know what brand would be best. So long as it is a good sized cooler it should do the job.

this cooler comes 11 by 11 and is made by true cool along with a oil thermostat so not to over cool the oil in the winter is what i am going to use on my 84 6.2 and i am going to throw the stock hoses out forever and have a set of good ones made.

That's a universal cooler, made in Canada and sold by many after-market vendors, incl B&M - it's workable, as noted by the 1/2" NPT ports.

They make an identical piece, but with 5/16" ports for auto transmissions - not even workable for big 6 or V8 engine oil systems.

What year is the truck?
a 6.2 radiator won't fit a pre 81 model as the 6.2 radiator is about 3-4 inches longer than the older gasser units.
If it is an older truck I would suggest a good 4 row 454/400 HD radiator with an external oil cooler.

biggest reason was to get to npt on both ends so i can go with after market hoses also have a oil thermostat with npt threads plan on mounting the cooler upfront. going to use same set up on my cummins. don't like oil and antifreeze mixing.

I thought it was a 76 by your sig, I may add do not use a Modine replacement for a 454 HD it is a three tube design with the header plates so thin they keep cracking.
ask me how I know.
I will be buying a new core for mine soon.
6.2 also uses slightly larger inlet and outlet fittings on the radiator.
I bought a 454 radiator and had 6.2 tanks put on it.
