Is there such thing as an Intercooler kit made for the 6.2L?

Not to my knowledge, with boost pressures under ~12 psi max, you really don't need one, but they do help.

You're best off rigging one up.

Intercooler

Heath doesel is making one and it should be out after January. Penninsular diesel was also supposed to be making one.

You got a turbo that needs intercooing on that 6.2, N/A engine no need for you to run a IC, that is used to lower charge air temp elevated by a turbos compressor at 12+ psi.

Tim, I know that the IC is for turboed engines. But some people put turbos on their 6.2s. Therefore, I was curious, since the current kits don't come with ICs, if someone makes one that will work.

If I remember correctly, GM sold 6.2 wit a banks turbo from '88 to '92. I don't know how popular of an option it was, though. I can't find any K5s with any type of diesel from the '91 model year. Oh well.

no bang for buck to put an IC on a N/A engine, plus odd as to why one would try it as a NA engine is sucking in ambient air, IC is using ambient air across a heat exchanger to cool the charge air, there is a restriction to a heat exchanger (Loss of flow) of about 1-2 psi depending upon efficiency of IC see my signature of one IC install option. Maybe you would benefit from WMI (water mist injection) but I doubt any. Banks still makes a turbo kit for 6.2s, but it's low pressure by comparison to the 6.5 turbo and IC on the 6.2 turbo proably not cost effective, AFIK any IC kit for a 6.2 would be a custom build, as stated earlier thread < 12 psi boost not necessary to cool charge air.

If you need more power than a 6.2 N/A or turboed 6.2 maybe you need to look at a 6.5TD upgrade/swap, you could probably be more cost effective swap with that.

Can you put a 6.5 L TD in a '91 and earlier truck? What modifications, if any? Will the transmissions be able to handle it?

I know it sounds strange, but I'm looking to keep the electronics (computers) out of the truck if possible. So, I would be dealing with mechanical injection and a non-computer controlled automatic w/ overdrive to swap in. Hell, maybe even a manual - as long as it had an overdrive gear and no computer (though why a manual transmission would have a computer is beyond me).

thanks,

anyone?

80K10/6.5TD has done it, PM him.

I am sure with little or no mods the 6.5TD will fit in and work great in 80's style trucks.

any GM manual would work fine and the TH400 will as well. I figure a built 700R4 will and defently a 4L80E will with a standalone computer.

its not weird to want to stay non electronic, if I get to the point of needing a new engine I'll be going the same route with a built 700R4. and Im sure many people feel the same.

Keep the 6.2!

Installing the 6.5TD into an 80's classic body style isn't the best route. The problem isn't the engine, because everything from the 6.2 will bolt to the 6.5. The turbo and associated hardware poses clearance problems in the truck described. Mainly, interference with the A/C evap box on the firewall and the turbo itself.

The Banks manifolds and exhaust routing get around this problem.

No need for intercooling...

Find a 6.2 in a truck that you really like, get used to driving it N/A. Then, install the Banks setup on the truck and you'll be happy. If you want more power, then you can invest in HO injectors and a better injection pump (DB2-4911).

IMHO, a 6.2 can be made to perform just like a 6.5.
