Looks Like I'm going to be replacing my injectors myself. So where can I find the injectors puller tool? Also does anyone know a good place to find injectors sleeves. The dealer here is useless they want to mark everything crazy high. I've got injectors on the way but am wondering where to find the rest. Any help is appreciated.

I'm going to take lots of pictures and try to post so others can see whats required to do it themselves.

The injector puller was the hardest thing to find. (I am changing one of mine this weekend.) What you need is a Kent-Moore J-44639. I found a local shop that could order it for $75. I checked with Snap-on and Matco to see if they had it yet, but they don't. OTC doesn't sell it yet either (even though they are also a subsidiary of SPX.) If you find a local OTC dealer they can probably order it for you.

My truck has 170,000ml so I was planning on replacing the sleeves while I was in there. Also I didn't want to have one need to be replaced and have to wait on the part. I'm going to be using the shop on base and it costs $30 a day. If I have a bad sleeve or one comes out I'm screwed waiting on a replacement.

I'm not sure on a duramax , but on a stroker it's a PITA, to get to the sleeves and change them. Never heard of sleeves goin bad in a duramax.If they aren't leakin I'd say leave em alone.

I removed the injectors without the special tool. If you remove the bolt for the injector "C clamp", you can insert a metal punch that fits the hole on the clamp. You can now "pry" the injector out of the sleeve. The "c clamp" will lift the injector as you pry. Worked great for me. Some of the sleeves will come out with the injector. You will probably notice buildup between the injector and sleeve. Use a rebuild kit (new washer, rings, etc.) for the new injectors. If you remove the sleeves, check the o-rings. Once you reinstall the sleeves, use a little lube on the o-rings and use red loctite on the tapered part.

when you take the bolt out of the injector hold down, twist it side to a bunch of times, this will help loosen the injector in the cup and eliminate some of the chance that it will the cup out with it. I would not replace them if they do not come out, not worth messing with them, there are some other tools you need to pull them out and in theory to install them.

ok I guess I won't replace the sleeves. Any more suggestions on what would be helpful as far as gaskets and sealants to have on hand to make things go smoothly. I'm getting a kit with injector seals banjo fitting seals and valve cover seals. Are there any other tools necesary to get. Fuel line disconects ect.

Its mostly all metric, the lines are 19mm, most bolts and nuts are 12mm, couple 13mm, need a 5mm hex 7mm socket. Pry bar. The spring hose clamps are a pain, alot of people replace them with standard hose clamps.

For the lines, I like to use a crows foot in a line wrench design. Make sure that you get them all tight, some are hard to get to after the truck is back together.

I made my own removal tool I took a old fuel line fitting and welded it to a peice of cable with a peice of steel on it like a slide hammer. Just spin it on the injector and pop it out. They have a two peice valve cover and you will need some GMS to reseal the one peice no gasket.

I bought a set of injectors from the market place here. The gasket kit I found on ebay.

I just replaced 1 of mine this weekend. After wasting $75 plus 2nd day shipping on the Kent-Moore J-44639 injector puller, I found out that the clamp to hold the injector in is actually what lifts it out. That being said, I measured the pin on the puller (pics in my garage) and found it was 10.4 mm (about .4 in) in diameter. If you have a 3/8 pin punch or a 3/8 bar from adjusting you garage door springs (small doors only) you don't need the puller. I also like the slide hammer style puller described above, but worry that pulling on an angle like that may make injector sleeve removal more likely.
