Was looking out at the 6.2 I have in my barn, planning on putting it in my 1963 chevy pickup. I heard the engine run before I bought it, but I am unsure of the injectors and injection pump. I want to get a rebuilt pump and I would rather try rebuilding my own injectors. I understand that there is a difference in the pumps used in the J code engines and the C code engines, someone once told me that the J code has a larger head and rotor so it can therefore deliver more fuel and can be adjusted differently than the C code. I also understand that they used different models of pumps in different years. What pumps did they use in each year for the J and C code engines, so I can pick which pump that I want to get, and determine which year and code my pump came from. I believe it was 4790, but I do not remember exactly. As far as rebuilding injectors, I understand that you need new nozzles and shim kits to adjust the pop pressure, but where do I get the shim kits, and how do I install them, and what parts do I need to build an injector pop tester. Oh, and what kind of vehicle could I pull a radiator from that would cool the 6.2 and fit with little or no modification? Sorry for the long message.

Most of the time - when installing new injector nozzle tips - you don't have to worry about the shim. Factory uses one shim per injector - custom ground to provide proper opening pressure. For any that I've installed new nozzle tips - pressure stayed correct - no adjustment needed.

In regard to the pumps - the head & rotors are the same for C-code and J-code. Delivery valve is slightly different and the max. fuel rate is adjusted different - adjusted by a threaded screw.

Rads, that would be trial and error or get yours rebuilt to a 4 core etc. Another option is getting a universal aluminium one from Ebay, Jegs, etc.

my email is [email protected], anyone know what i need to build the pop tester, I know I need a high pressure hydrualic hose, some sort of pump and gauge, but I don't know where to get the one way valve that retains the pressure for the gauge.

You don't need a check-valve. The professional built testers don't even have them. You need a hydraulic-power source - e.g. a bottle jack, a 3000 PSI gauge, some fittings, etc. You ought to have a fuel reservoir that will filter the fuel, and you also need an adapter to bolt the injector to. You can make an adapter from an old injector-line.

You can also buy a tester brand-new for around $110.

Well, I swear I've looked till I'm blue in the face, and I cannot find a complete listing of the DB2 IP's used from '82-'93 - find bits and pieces, but no complete listing.

I have a place for the list in FAQ's, so if you'll post it again, I'll nail it up there and you can use the url for further postings - should save you some time.

Or somebody point me at the previously posted listing........

i've actually tried searching for a complete list of pumps and came up empty. that would be great if it were made a sticky.

Known fuel delivery specs.

All speeds are in engine rpm unless otherwise noted.
1. Injection pump operating speed is half of engine speed.
2. Injection pump rotation is counterclockwise.
3. Injection pump is timed to the outlet port in the 10 o’clock position when viewed from the transfer pump end.

The oem 6.2 pumps are 0.290 dia plungers - the oem 6.5 pumps are 0.310 plungers, marine-service pumps are available with larger plungers

Good man - I did a search on your handle, looked thru 300 of your posts and gave up - 'course, I can go on the 'net, do a search for Dodge trucks, and get 'sorry, no matches found, try another search using a different subject'.

If I'da wanted info on Ford trucks, I'da searched for that - use the subject I specified = Dodge trucks - sheesh ! !

Yes, thanks that helps alot, beings that I want to upgrade to the HD pump for the N/A 6.2, which one would you recommend? I am assumming that one of the 90-92 pumps would be the best. Eventually I plan on getting a PROLINE longblock with the 4911 pump , marine injectors and a banks turbo, but since I have this current 6.2 I just want to get my pickup up and running with a diesel even if its only naturally aspirated. That will make the converstion to the turbodiesel a snap I beleive.

Is there versions that are better than others? Would usdieselparts.com be a good source? How could i find out if mine is good?

1991 was about the end of the line for the 6.2 - but any rebuilt DB2-0829 later than yours would be a good upgrade, including that one

Some of those, as you can see, indicate TPS, or VRV, +24v - some indicate different timing and adjustment.

Match post-'86 van to van app and you should be good to go.

What about this number ?

jdemaris , do you have any info on these numbers ? DB2833-4974 or DB2833-5722 . Supposed to be for 300 HP Penn Diesel and another for 310 HP . These are 4 roller heads so it really should be DB4--- .

DB2-4544 is the heavy duty work horse. Best pick for 6.2L

C/K — Injector - 84 mm length, 6 mm dia. nozzle valve; Lines - 2.50 mm I.D.; Delivery Valve Retraction - 30mm3
G — Injector - 74 mm length, 5 mm dia. nozzle valve; Lines - 2.00 mm I.D.; Delivery Valve Retraction - 22.5mm3
* — Injector - 74 mm length, 5 mm dia. nozzle valve; Lines - 2.36 mm I.D.; Delivery Valve Retraction - 22.5mm3
So this means 2.50mm lines flow more correct? 30mm3 means the pump flows more than a 22.5mm3?

I recently bought a 1986 J, HD 6.2L LL4 that, according to the original owner, has a rebuilt and upgraded DB2-4544 which was used through 1988. The 1989 HD takes a DB2-4723 . The 1990, HD is DB2-4779 and the 1992-93 take an HD DBS-4979.
