I recently acquired. A 6.2l na. Casting# IDs it as a 6.2 it came out of a 1991 1/2T GMC
but appears to be a J motor, open plenum and no exhaust flapper.
On the right rear side of the block is a cast in date code (appears so to me) 9/7/82. Is this the year the block was cast?
Would really like to know this before I replace my CUCV engine with it
Thanks ahead for any information

Passenger rear side should have a casting code that goes to a date. Driver side rear is the block code (will end in 660). A 6.2 is a 6.2. It will bolt into the CUCV either way with no real issues.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Makes this one an 82. Read here that the 82s were originally painted Orange however this was taken originally from an 83 I Believe and is now at least. Black.
Just want to know what I actually have.
It's going in my 86CUCV WHOs engine has compression issue.
Will bench run it and reseal it before I install it.
Anyway Thanks again
