I am not particularly fond of my console so I was thinking of switching to a 40/20/40 seat. My cousin has been foaming at the mouth over having my console and I would love to trade him but if I do, there will be a big empty spot under the heater controls where my console meets up to it. Does anybody make a filler panel/pullout can holder or something else that can go into this space or do I have to switch out both of our lower dashes? Secondly, will there be big holes in the carpet from where the console is fastened? And lastly, is there anything else inder there I need to worry about? (vents, electrical, etc)? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bret

You can buy the lower dash new or recycled and trade it out. It extends from your driver's knee panel all the way to the pass door post. I saw pics and a write up somewhere but I can't remember where. I would also check to see if the carpet fully covers the hump. The write-up I can't find was going the other way (40/20/40 to console.)

Here are some photos from my 02, I am not sure if the 03 is the same. I'll look at my Dad's 04 later to see if they are.

First photo is with the filler panel, second without, and third is the panel. This is all oem. The console has ducting running through it, so that has to be removed and there is a plastic panel that blocks the hole in the remaining duct (also oem). I am not sure about the carpeting, but I can check that later today.

You will also need a new drivers side knee bolster (the trim piece below the steering wheel) as it is about 1" longer than the bolster in a truck with a console. I found this out when I was looking for a new trim section for my truck. I have one in light grey if you need it.

There is a lower dash glovebox section on Ebay right now. Search "Silverado Dash", and youll see it. Its dark grey.

I looked at the 04, and it is different from my 02, so I don't know how much help I can be. It is really easy to change the lower dash, so it might be a good idea to just switch it with your cousin. The Mitchell estimating guide shows a little more then 1/2 hour labor. The interesting thing is that it doesn't show any different part numbers for the lower dash with console or without for the 03+. Maybe they are the same?? Sorry I couldn't be more help, but all my stuff is 02 and older. If you change the lower dashes, you will need to drill out 2 pop rivets that hold the glove box to the lower dash, otherwise it is just normal R&R.
