had the first snowfall this winter....a whopping 2 inches. anyway, i put my truck in 4WD to turn around in the driveway, and forgot to take it out. later, i drove about 5 miles down a DRY road in 4WD, but didn't notice until i turned into the local Dunkin Donuts and felt the front end "hopping" during the tight turn. i now notice a shimmy / vibration in the front end and think i hear it as well, usually anywhere above 40mph. i don't recall if it was there prior to the 4WD mishap or after. the balancing weights are still on the wheels, and i'm going to rotate them this week to narrow things down, but what are the chances of me screwing something up pretty bad?

Chances are good that you didn't hurt anything. Many, many, many people have done the same thing and I've never heard of anyone damaging anything by doing it.

Exactly. I drove 100 miles in 4WD towing my 15K 5er on dry roads before I noticed it. Didn't hurt a thing even going 65MPH.

Straight line on dry road is not much of an issue. Turning, especially tight turns on high traction surfaces can cause driveline windup and is bad. You should be okay.

I actually run mine in 4wd on road every so often just to get the oil moved around.

Not to worry. My wife drove our Yukon XL in 4WD for about a week. She called me to tell me that the truck felt like it was hopping when she tried to turn into parking spaces! Go figure!

Caress her on the headlights, and tell her you are sorry. She will forgive you.
I have to do it to mine on a regular basis, after heavy 4WD off road towing.

I've never heard of anyone having a problem in 4wd High. My brother-in-law pulled his 5th wheel about 5 miles down the road doing 60 in 4wd Low. He thought the transmission wasn't shifting at first. Blew the seals out of the front end and something else with it that I don't remember. 2002 Chevy 2500.

i like your avatar i'm sure my truck is glad i don't use it like you use yours.

But back to the topic I use my 4WD a lot in the snow, drifting, and it will hop even in the snow and I haven't had any problems.
