In the electrical control box under the hood there are 6-large~amp fuses at the very top. I am trying to check them to see why I have no power to my trailer brakes or tongue jack. I tried pulling one and it dont want to move even with lightly prying up with a knife blade. I decided to leave it alone for fear of breaking something. Figured I better ask you Folks here on the board first for info.

Thanks for any info!!

I use a pair of needle nose pliers and wiggle back and forth while pulling up.

Did you put the 40 amp fuse in where the "dummy" fuse is?

Nope, I dont know anything about a "Dummy" fuse. I guess I will have to look in the manual for that location. Didn`t notice any word like "Dummy" in the manual. Er`were ya`fibbin me?. I was told that I might have to install or check the auxillary fuse and I just did. It already has a 20-amp fuse that looks good. I guess those large amp fuses on top are removable huh?. I just noticed in the book that the fuse to the top right [STUD-2] says trailer brake in the manual.

IF you pull your cover, youll see in "stud 2" position its a red plastic "fuse" (its a dummy pliastic no fuse) you pull that put a fuse in its place (that can be boughta t napa for 2.99. Put that in and you should have "juice" back there.

To check a fuse without pulling it you can hook a test light to ground. Probe the top of the fuse (small metal tabs). A fuse with power, will light on both sides of the fuse. A blown fuse will only light on one side.

I wish it could be as simple as that. There is no Red Dummy Fuse in stud-2, There is a green 30-amp fuse in that position.

Thanks for your info, It will help me in the future.

Thanks for that tip. I will give that a try tomorrow after buying some spare fuses.

"Dummy plug" didn't start til 2003 when they switched to square fuses. Your truck has the maxi fuse. I think it used to say Aux A. It is the one in that row of fuses that is closest to the front of the truck. 40 amp.

The "40-amp" fuse closest to the front of truck in the manual says
{Accessory Power/Trailer Wiring Feed}

The last fuse in that row "30-amp" says
[Accessory-Power/Trailer Wiring Brake Feed]

So I will mess with both of them today and see if I get any results.

I see your fuses are the box type but My blade 40-amp is in the same place. I am also going to pull the 30-amp closest to the firewall and check it because it says for trailer brakes in the manual. They both say for Trailer Wiring but the back one only mentions Trailer Brakes. Thanks, I love pictures

"good News"

Good news, The 40-amp fuse closest to the front of truck was blown. I went and bought one in town and all lights & brakes on the trailer are working now. I want to thank you Guys for all your help & suggestions, They really came in handy plus I learned a lot.
