Great write up! What size is the stock pipe?

as far as I know yes, but don't quote me on that. You might check out TTS, they have one and I think it's larger than this one here. there isn't much room back there due to the firewall. If the turbo was mounted on the side or something then you could come out of that housing with a larger pipe.

I know a lot of times with these projects it seems simple and quick once it is written up but that is because the guy that did the write up already did all the suffering and we don't hear about that. If you have a rough time estimate and maybe how high your blood pressure got or how many times you threw things and screamed obscenities that would give me a good idea if I want to attemp this or not. (I am not the only one that does that when working on my truck am I)?

it took me all day, but I found the best way to do the install in my opinion. It's always the first install that's the hardest. I tried several ways and will save most of you a lot of time. With knowing what to do first I'd say a few hours at most to do it. I took pictures, took notes, modified the pipe to fit, ran to parts store, blah blah...

not sure about the tone, but I do hear more turbo whistle than before, but it might not be related. as far as EGT's I haven't noticed any real change except that change very fast..going up and down.

it's a well made peice and is a few pounds lighter than the stock cast peice, but I'll keep an eye on the EGT's and let you know.

according to everything I'm seeing I'd have to say no..I'm not sure why, but it says..Diamond Eye Performance has developed a Turbo Direct pipe for the ’03- early ‘07 Chevy/GM LLY & LBZ Diesel Exhaust systems

diamond eye performance told me it will not work on my 02' lb7 because the down pipe and turbo is one "cast" piece. You cannot seperate the two unlike the lly and lbz .....

I think the OEM down pipe is 3 inch diameter. I managed to snap the OEM T-Bolt today and I had a Dynotech 3 inch V-band kit for another project and used today to get the truck running.

I believe it is a 3.5" pipe, not 4". It is mandrel bent. That and bigger than stock still means way better IMO!

just goes to show that every truck is different. If anyone has the same issue as I did, that's how you get it to work.

This question is almost on topic but.. Whats that wrapped around the down pipe? is it along the lines of a flexible heatshield?

And if so how can someone get there hands on some of it?

It's Heat Wrap...basically it keeps the Heat INSIDE the Piping instead of it Radiating out and around it.

Also by keeping the Heat in the Pipe, it supposedly help with spool-up and keep underhood temps. down.

You can get it online, possibly from NAPA....it called Heat Wrap / Header Wrap, ect...

Sweet thanks. I just installed a 4" front pipe and back system and i was looking at wrapping it in a few areas where it comes close to other components.
