How to check glow plugs/module

What's the best way to check em all? i have a P0381 code, which says it is glow plug indicator malfunction, I'll try the cluster trick, anyone have any suggestions/advice? I'd like to check the plugs as well and make sure they're not burnt/ broke off. Should I wait until I have new ones in hand in case they decide to break and not come out? Or are they prone to this at all?

? Federal, from Flint, MI
U have to take the 8mm nut off of each glow plug (one at a time) and test the end with a test light to power if u have a light it's good, no light bad glow plug!

If a plu was snapped off or burnt up, this would tell you as well?
So, you need the truck on OR do you need it running?
This maybe a stupid one, but the way I understood what you said is to "test to power" so is this when you test the plug it is acting like a ground source? Or do you test it to ground?
Thanks!
Correct, the test light needs to be connected to positive post. There is never stupid question, when it comes to a duramax!! truck needs to be off, u can test a plug in ur hand if u had to. Good plugs will light up
