I've figured out that EFI live is definetely worth getting other than a programmer I imagine. I would just like to know how much I'd end up spending in the long run when I end up doing this. You have to get a laptop don't you and I'm not sure which version of what kind of EFI live I should get plus I would want the new dsp5 so I can switch between 5 custom tunes:ro) . Thank's, Adam

The V2 once fully functional will eliminate the need for the PC to connect to the vehicle. That would narrow your investment it down to the unit cost plus the switch, plus the time required to learn to tune and build a tune.

Thank's John, That's awesome. I've learned so much from this forum since I've been on here. You must just hook up the Flashscan V2 into the OBDll port and download a tune ,right or program it while hooked up? Does it have the Valet mode too cause I'd definetely want that if someone went to drive my truck and it wouldn't be good.:D

The plan is (Ross can verify) that you can download to teh V2 and then take to the vehicle. I believe the tune is stored on removeable media.

What truck are you planning to tune?

Well if I can get back into Road Construction in a month or so I'm going to hopefully get an 04.5 CCSB 4x4 Dark Gray Metallic HD or if someone tells me the 06 LBZ's are more worth it to get than an LLY I might get one. But I really love the Dark Gray Metallic color. I've got it all planned out how I'd have alot of things done on it already(good to do sort of). Did the same thing with my Z71 now and did everything I had wrote down on the piece of paper. I'm going to do protection stuff first like the sleeves and gauges and sort of things. After that gets done then I'll do some power smart like. If things go o.k I'll have Eric do my tranny for it next winter.

Currently FlashScan V1 and FlashScan V2 require laptop connection. With FlashScan V2, we are aiming to have blackbox data logging, standalone reading and flashing, and SD memory card use operational before the end of March. When all of this is implemented, a laptop connection between the vehicle-FlashScan V2-PC/Laptop will no longer be required.

You will be able to load your tunes from your PC onto FlashScan V2 then disconnect, move to your vehicle and plug FlashScan into your vehicle. A PC/Laptop will still be required to view your logs and edit your tunes - it's location now becomes irrelevant - it could be on a PC on the 3rd floor of an office building, your home PC etc.

Total cost is $749 for FlashScan V2 which will allow you to tune 2 ECM's and 2 TCM's - TCM and ECM don't have to be on the same vehicle.

Cheers
Cindy

Thank's ,I guess I'll still need to get a laptop then. I don't want to use the house computer and cram it full of experimental tunes and stuff when I do it. Can someone suggest any special laptop, does it have to be a certain speed or anything. What all can I achieve with EFI live? Custom tunes, data logging, removing limiters, and change tire sizes for speed correction? I think there's more isn't there

I bought a demo off the shelf at Best Buy for $500.00, and its a better computer than my $2000 1 year old dell. The only thing the new computer is for is EFI and this forum.

I know Larry, The computer in the house that I'm on now is only 120GB and it's fast but the newer ones out are alot faster.

i just buy a cheaper laptop for around $500 and use it only for efilive, that way there isnt a whole bunch of other crap to slow it down.
That's what I will probably do too is get a cheaper laptop and just use it for EFI live. Is there anything special I'd need when getting a laptop for using EFI live? I could just unplug the internet connection from one of our computers in the house and download custom tunes or something couldn't I or do I even need that if I design my own?

starting the 1st of february all new computers will use windows vista as the orerating system which I dont think is compatible with EFI. You better get a computer that has windows xp or media center before they are all gone, Best Buys only had 7 left and it was pretty much that way at several other stores I looked at. I ended up with a Gateway that was pretty well loaded with memory, large hard drive, etc....... but just about every store I went to told me the only operating systems offered after feb 1 will be the news Windows vista.

No more so then any other type tuning that lay down the same amount of power, and torque.

That is not true at all. Vista will be released in February, but only high end computers will have it at first. It maybe a year or two before all computers come standard with it.

What all can EFI live do, and what kind of requirements would I need for a laptop to run it. Speed/memory,certain programs. I really haven't read into it to much about running EFI but it can't be too hard. I'm doing more power a little later because first I'm improving the protection/strength of things when I get it.
