My local shop was gonna charge my dad $150 to fix his steering clunk in his 04 dmax? Does this sound right? Or what

The Borgeson steering shaft is $230 or thereabouts.....better design than the GM one.

Ok, but has anyone got one with some time on it?
Like 6-8mos or so? I ask, because I put a new GM shaft
in myself & it only lasted about that long before it
too started making the noise....

Thanks for any insight,

T.

mine only has 3 months on it

$150 sounds about right for a shop to do it. IIRC I paid around $70 for mine at the dealer.
Its not a real tough job and there are great instructions somewhere on here that show exactly how to do it.
I did a couple of them and I can finish it in 15min and not work real fast.

If youre on here HEAVY you probably are mechanical enought to do it. All you need is a 15MM socket

If it's not too far out of warranty, they may honor it as there is a TSB out on it.

I used the GM grease kit @17K now have 36K not a sound/rattle from the intermediate shaft. Took me 20-25 minutes. Do a search and I think you'll find people having better success with greasing. Lots of pix this site in the DIY section. Good luck.
