I have a 1992 GMC 3500 6.5 TD with the mechanical injection. I am not the original owner, but the first owner swares that it had the original motor and tranny, and has only had minor repairs. It had a little over 200,000 miles when I got it, so I figured the motor was on borrowed time. I didn't care since my friend wrecked his very low mileage 93 and let me buy the 6.5 out of it, and I plan on swapping motors when mine dies. Now the truck has close to 300,000 miles. It still has the same engine and trans. I had to put the cooling upgrades for when I pull 15,000 pound loads upgrade in the middle of the summer heat, but that is all I've done. I am not even very good at changing the oil on this one. It still starts right up, even cold. It doesn't smoke except for the first minute after sitting for a month. I add 1 quart of oil every 2,000 miles, but some of that is from a leak at the oil cooler.

I was wondering how many miles others have on their motors. I don't use this truck much anymore, but I would like to get an idea of how much longer it might last.

Only 102,000 on the truck in my sig. Question on your 92 though. Have you never changed the glow plugs or injectors? How about pullys or harmonic balancer, radiator, etc. That is impressive!

222k the motor was changed at around 100k or so the oil filter back off because of a manufactors defect and it siezed going down the interstate Our wrecker has 357k on it it had the motor changed at 120 it snaped the crank. It is still going strong with minor work it is starting to show its age though.

I have never changed the injectors, glow plugs, or injector pump. I had the radiator cleaned out when I upgraded the cooling. Never changed pulleys or harmonic balancer. I have changed the serpentine belt. I had to change fuel shut-off solenoid on injection pump when the wires shorted and caught fire (very small fire), but that was a real easy fix.

I just changed my timing chain set, harmonic balancer, glow plugs, and injectors. Old ones had 144,000 and still looked and worked good.

Changed blown head gasket at 144,000 miles. Guess I'm just lucky.

My 92 has 318,000 kms(200,000 miles) and it is original pump and injectors. It goes through about 1 lt of oil in 5000 kms. I am second owner and I haven't changed any thing on engine other than filters and some sensor like TPS. I am having some pump issues at the moment though.

My 92 has 340,000 miles on original IP and Inj. I had a small headgasket seep about 5 years ago, resurfaced the heads and replaced the 4 GP's on the pass side since there a pain to get too, other 4 are original, stills starts better than my other two with 150,000 less miles. It still has the original balancer, replaced the accessory balancer, starter and a bunch of alternators, water pump, radiator and a couple heater cores. It doesn't use much oil if I change it @3,000mi, but I'll have to add a quart @around 4,000mi or so, it has a few samll oil leaks also. I dont really take care of the truck like I should anymore, alot of time it'll have 10,000mi on the oil before I relize it, I always used delo-400 30wt since it was new, it usually get some oil and fuel additives about half the time.

1993 mechanical pump. First engine went 182,000 miles (294,000km) and I blew it up (you can only mod so far!). Was a shame, during tear down the thing was in great condition......except for the hole in the wall of cyl number 1.

Second engine is a crate from GM with the newer style block (1997.5 with the oil spray).

This engine has 320,000 miles on it (518,000km) and still hauls me to work every day. It's starting a little rough in the cold but once it goes it goes!

Injection pump has about 250,000 miles on it (first one removed cause I tampered with it).

4L80E lasted until 624,000 km and lost reverse, looked good inside at teardown (blown seal was prob).

Get this...water pump has 645,000 km on it (almost 400,000 MILES).

Always use GM parts, good oil and filters, and service it every 4000 miles.

I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!!!!! After half a million miles it owes me nothing!

My truck has over 530 thousand on it now, truck, not engine.
We have a 95 at work that has either 550 or 580 thousand, ( i can never remember) Other than a few IP's and PMD's it original. I'm trying to convince him to change the injectors in it but he won't touch them cuz its still running good.

Truck in sig has 443000. Was a trailer pick up & delivery every day it was worked, one owner/driver before me. No warranty claims, original pump, injectors ,glow plugs, water pump & hoses. One set of oil cooler hoses. Oil pan & valve covers resealed. One clutch, flywheel, rebuilt trans, diff bearings ,OP sender ,lift pump, wire harness & relayAMSOIL,& there fuel additives, air cleaner used. 6000 mile oil changes . I just changed the starter. 20 plus MPG in urban driving. The driver is what makes them last IMO

I've got a '97 C2500 (F VIN) that had 286,000 miles on the motor until the timing chain broke a few months back and went through the oil pan and caused valve damage. relpaced the turbo once recently, a starter, alt once, and only two PDMs :D . I'm currently working on installing a used motor back into it. I'm trying to replace as much as I can on the motor while it's on the stand...but also keep it from costing an arm and a leg too.
