I just took delivery on my 04 Silverado yesterday. It has the Duramax Diesel 6600 engine with the 5 speed Allison. I see posting referring to the Duramax LLY. Is this what I have? The unit was manufactured in March of 04. Also, how do I know if I have the Second Generation 2004.5 or not? I see references to that posted often. Thanks. Any info. would help.

It's an LLY if it was manufactured in March.

The second generation is the LLY. The first generation is the LB7. There is no second generation of the LLY. Hopefully that is clear.

Yes yours is an LLY. Anything built after 01-01-04 has to comply with the latest Federal Diesel Emissions regs and that's primarily what the LLY was built for. If you want to know, the eighth digit of the VIN is 2 for an LLY and 1 for an LB7.

Your LLY is what is referred to by the 2004.5 second generation since prior to late December, 2003, the 2004 model year trucks with Dmax's were built with the LB7 engine.
