The beginner files on this forum say that after I insert the new resistor into the new PMD, that "The value of this resistor is only read every 50 Keystarts (unless prompted to read instantly with a GM Tech-2 scanner)?"
I don't have a scanner.
What does that mean, key starts? Does it mean that I have to fully turn the engine over 50 times, or does it just mean turning the key back and then forward so the lights go on and off, 50 times? That would be easier. 馃ぃ

It will be read whenever the resistor will be read.
The number is really just speculation.

Don't worry the truck will run assuming the IP is timed correctly which is what they have to do when installing IP properly.

Here is the FAQ and links to all info needed to understand this truck with 6.5L engine.

Please don't claim that you are a diesel expert since all diesel engines are different.
The principle is the same using Diesel Combustion cycle but the implementation and quirks are different between engine.

What number resistor did you install?Usually a #5 is the common replacement but if you have it installed your good to go.

I couldn't get the original resistor out of the original PMD. So I ordered a #9, and it didn't fit over the pegs in my new stanadyne PMD.
I had another old PMD laying around that had a #8 resistor in it, so that's what I'm working with. You think that's an issue? 馃檨

#8 should be okay.Cant see it being a problem.Usually all you need to do is lightly trim the outside section of the resistor to get it to fit inside the newer style grey pmd.

Any resistor number should be fine.
The adjustment is very small in the 1/1000 ml of fuel rate.
It is not a "tune" either in the sense that the ECM will read the resistor all the time.
