I just installed a 4" turbo back system to reduce egt's when towing. Just got back from a trip to Glamis and I was still bouncing off in the high 12's to low 13's when towing my 14k 5er. Is this normal with the turbo back exhaust?

It was on level 0 (stock) while towing grades. In level 1 & 2 on flat ground I would get up in the high 12's.

Do you have a boost stick?? If not you should look at one, they really help while towing especialy with the Edge box.

How fast were you going?
My trailer loaded is about 12-12.5K and at 55mph i'm around 1000* with no chip

Level 0 is not stock on Edge Attitude. It still adds some timing.

Completely stock you should never have to worry about EGT's getting too high, GM designed things that way and they never included a stock EGT gauge.

They run 1200's all day long stock........on the big slow grades ...1300 isn't that bad unless it's for more than 5 min......I had really high EGT's 1400 + with my predator v2.00, now with the new version v2.02, and no cat I maybe see mid 1200's on the big grades....if I start hitting 1300 I'll back off a little....that's towing 9,000lbs at 70 mph with the 65hp setting. The 40 HP setting is even lower.

i never see more than 1200 towing in level three up some pretty steep hills in CO, granted my trailer only weighs 7k tho.

Thanks guys, maybe I will look into the boost stick for towing. I wanted to get a base line on towing egt's and it sounds like I am in the ball park!

I made a trip this past fall with a load of about 18.5k gross and I was running around 1000 on flat ground at 75 mph. Maybe my truck just runs cool or something? I don't recall what the most I saw was, but my alert was set to go off at 1350 and I never heard it. That was with the Edge set on lvl 2.

You were pulling a major weight and didn't bounce off of 13+? I can hit 1350 easily on flat ground level 2 trying to pass at about 65, even merging onto the highway I can bounce in the 1300's in level 2. Sounds like I'm pushing alot of fuel to get those high egt's.

I'm with you, I hit 12 and 13 more often than I would like on level 1, 2, or 3. Boost level never higher than 3. Also hit 236+ temp and backed down while towing 18K combined. That was 7-10% grade at 99F outside temp. Fan kicked in and could only maintain 60mph. I easily hit 1300 and let off when I hit 1330 or so. I have alarms set at 1330 and 225 now so I wont trash it. Anyone see where I can lower EGT and engine temp with mods?
