hey guys, my dad has a 98 chevy 1500 and its down for the count. he has no reverse, but can drive in the foreward gears. drove it around the block and then parked it. this just started happening. what could cause this? did he fry the tranny? thanks

Sounds like another reverse/1st gear drum bit the dust (it will be broke at the splines). Very common problem with the 4L60E.

Pull trans, remove everything inside until you get to the drum alllll the way at the end of the trans. near the output shaft. Basicly, if you are going that far into it, time to do an entire trans rebuild plus the new drum.:(

Be sure get it properly diagnosed before spending mega $$$$

Quick answer; With years and years of dealing with the same reaccuring problems with the 4L60E.

Long answer; Probably no codes, Tech 2 to command the solenoids, then may ask for an 'ok' to drop the pan to see what shinny objects are inside and go from there.
