Had a blown headgasket on the drivers side but decided to do both heads when I first dove into it. Found a crack between the valves on cyl 8. How much is acceptable, didnt have any problems on the passenger side that I am aware of before I started to tear it apart.
Here is a pic of the crack.

also found the head gasket had swollen so the coolant ports where almost none existent, will there be any issues with enlarging the holes in the new gasket to improve coolant flow?

Cracks between the valves are common in the 6.5L heads. I would have a competent machine shop test/inspect .
I would not modify the head gasket. That is just a problem waiting to happen.

Okdually Is right about the gasket.I wouldn’t modify it.I’d leave it as is.I’ve seen many 6.2 6.5 heads crack between the valves with no problems but better to pressure test them as okdually suggested.

X3 on do not modify the HG. Enlarging the holes could screw up the coolant flow balance. You could get hot spots in the head. Which will cause more cracks.
As long as the crack does not extend into the valve seat you may be ok.
