I have the 40/20/40 front seats. I'm now having problems opening the console. Does anyone have a solution on how to make it open easier. I've tried pushing the right, left and center of the button and I still have to fight with it. Thanks for any help.

Center Console Lid Hard To Open Or Close
(Lubricate Center Console Lid Latch)

1999-2003 Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
1999-2003 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL
with Split Front Seats (RPO AE7)

Some customers may comment on a center console lid that is hard to open or close.
Lack of lubrication on the center console lid latch may cause this condition.
Apply GM Dri Slide(R) Lubricant, P/N 1052948 to the center console lid latch using the following procedure:
1.Open the center console lid. If the lid will not open, press in the center console latch handle button and give the top of the center console lid a sharp rap with your hand in order to open the lid.

2.Working through the opening in the latch trim plate, apply a small amount of lubricant to the center console latch at the locations shown in the illustration above, while operating the center console latch. Operating the center console latch while spraying the lubricant will help work the lubricant into the latch mechanism. It is not necessary to remove the center console latch trim plate.
3.Open and close the center console lid several times in order to verify the proper operation of the lid latch.

My 2001 has always been a problem, while the 2006 opens like a dream. Have had the entire latch system apart & lubed , which helped but lately it takes 10 or 12 raps on the release button to get it to open. I'm thinking it may be the mechanism that prevents the console from being opened in the upright position, as the feel when pushing the button is very similar. Think I'm gonna have to do another r&r......
