I was watching Motor Week on speedchannel and they did a axle test between a new 1/2 ton, 2007 Silverado, Serria and a ford. One of the GM trucks (I can't remember which one) was 2 wheel drive and the other one was 4 wheel drive. The ford was two wheel drive. They were demostrating how the G80 Locking Differential performed better than the limited slip on the ford. They took the trucks to the Eaton Proving ground and put them through it. One test was on a hill using wet rollers on one side and wet concrete on the other. The trucks would get the right rear tire on the wet rollers and attempt to take off. Of course the GM trucks started spinning some but when that G80 locked in they gained traction and pulled away. The ford would sit there and spin both rear wheels not going anywhere. That test was a good simulation of a wet boat ramp at a lake. Another test was a big ditch where they would pulll the trucks into it with the right rear tire off the ground. The GM trucks pulled away with no problem. The ford truck just sat there and spun its wheels. Another test was a pull test. They put the right rear wheel on a roller and the other was on wet concrete. They hooked a cable with a strain gauge to the back of the truck. The other end of the cable was hooked to a steel post in the ground. The ford pulled and they measured how much it was pulling according to the gauge. The GM trucks would pull against the cable and were smoking the left rear tire big time. They said the the GM trucks pulled 4 times the amount that the ford did. I never realized how good the G80 was until I saw the test. They talked about how the limited slip differential on the ford was just that......LIMITED. Once again ford comes in last...
