Most of the time it's just a bad ground.

However the old systems are a lot different than the new ones and they all have their different ways about them.

So you need to update your signature to show what your vehicle information is.

Also check out the FAQ's thread in this forum for some simple troubleshooting ideas. Also check out the 6.2 forum.

I'll take you over there for more 6.2 eyes to see it.

Welcome to the forum! :welcome2:

Yes, there is a controller behind the air cleaner that can go bad. Yes, there are other parts that can fail as well...

First of all, it would really help to know what year this truck is. Early models ('82-'84) had a different glow plug setup than the later trucks had.

Welcome again! :welcome:

Just take the wire that goes TOO the tank sender, and ground it. The gauge - if working - should go to full. quite often, when the gauge stops working on the 80s trucks, it's the ground wire connection to the tank that goes bad and causes the gauge not to work properly.

In regard to your glow-plug guestion - if you are sure you have a relay (on the drive's side inner fender), then the system also has a thermal controller, and a inhibitor-sensor. So - there are three comonents besides the glow-plugs themselves. The later systems does not have a separate relay - the controller and relay are unitized.
