I am in the process of checking out the glow plugs on the #6 & #8 plugs. There are shields around the #4 & #6 plugs. The one around the #6 plug has totally disintegrated (sp?). The bolts that hold that particular shield on are so rusted that the material is coming off in layers. My question is do I need to replace the heat shield with something or can I just replace the plug? If I need to replace, how would you suggest that I replace the heat shield.

Thanks
Chris

There is a bracket that goes on the valve cover that holds the heat shield. You might check a wrecker yard.

I believe he is refering to the metal shields for the glow plug wires. I have been running mine for quite some time without the shields. Just make sure the wires can not get burned on the exhaust manifold.

Ah yes I see now.

Yep those are simply to protect the wires. Maybe some heat wrap around them would be a good idea.

Yes, and be careful not to just pull the wires(like some goofball 1st timer:D ) and have to rewire them. If you feel more comfortable with the shield on there, you should be able to get one at a junk yard as stated above.;)

Thanks guys. I will go without for now. Glad I spent the time to finally tear the fender out on that side. The #6 cylinder still had the orginal 11G plug and it was burnt out. Ther #8 was all rusted up, I cleaned the terminals up and should be good to go.
