I have an 03 w/ 108K on it. I have new batteries. Just started having the gauge problem. When I start it the gauges are dead. They usually come back up at restart. Then I noticed the radio was resetting. The shift indicator lights are not always as bright as they should be either, sometime times almost unreadable. The dimmer adjust has no effect on making it better or worse. All other lights appear to work normally. The dealer says something about the ignition switch????? I haven't found any loose grounds. The batteries are approx. 6 mo's old. What is the guy talking about the ground block? On the other hand since the other problems have started the seats seem to working fine now. I also read some other posts that the reason for the low volts at start up was due to an air breather/heater? I think it's something that has always been there, I just didn't notice it till all the other things started happening. Also my volt meter the other day was cycling between 14 and 16 volts. I've only noticed this once. Anybody want to take a shot at these diagnosis?

I started looking for a forum such as this to ask this very question. All gauges do not respond on occasion. A simple restart will fix the problem. It happened while the truck was at a GMC service location and they had no idea what to check. I have checked for loose grounds and loose battery cables but found nothing yet. i will post if I find a definate problem.

It has been a fairly common complaint when one or both of the batteries are shot.

Let's hope it's just a loose connection since you just replaced the batteries. Did you have the old batteries tested? Was one bad?

Maybe fixed

I went back and checked the battery posts. One of the grounds was loose ever so slightly. I tightened some but looks like I will have to get a shorter bolt. It's been 4 days and so far so good. Gauges all seem to be working fine. The shifter display however has not improved. Will update if I find out anything else.

Yes one of the batteried was shot. The other was'nt far behind it by the time I got home. It over charged on the trip home. If my problem continues I will load test batteries. Shouldn't have got maintenance free so I could hydro them.
