What does anyone know about running 1-2 gals of gas along with a diesel fill when it is cold?

Does this hurt anything?

Thanks for the reply

It does not hurt any thing, at least for a 6.2L

Not good. Gasoline is extremely volatile, has less energy than diesel, has no lubricity, cetane is the fuel rating for compression ignition and adding gasoline may negatively impact burn characteristics and temperatures in the cylinders. If you want "thinning" or concerned about cloud point at extremely low temperatures, use #1 fuel oil or kerosene. Kero has less energy (but much more than gasoline) and no lubricity, but it is recommended in older GM diesels up to 25% for extreme cold weather operation.

Gas is a big No No for diesels PERIOD!!! Given the gas prices, additive is more cost effective to prevent gelling and much more cost effective then repairing the engine from the damage you will cause.

I know a few "old timers" who have done this for longer than most of us have been alive.Moderation is probably the key.

Anyone reading this thread please accept this warning and DON'T PUT GAS IN YOUR DIESEL. A lot of old timers didn't have the knowledge available and went by wives tales and here say. I grew up with "Old School" grandparents on a medium size successful farming operation. We love our equipment and would never even consider putting gas or used oil in our diesel. They may have used some gasoline in the early years of diesel because no additives were available, but it is not in the best interest of the engines. Some people may have been lucky and had them hold up, but I guarantee that the diesels on the West coast where they were not adding gas to prevent gelling and promote better starting lasted longer than the same engine in the East and NorthEast where gas was being added.

Don't know the reason anyone would want to even take a chance? There are additives that are available to help with cold weather operations.

Were those "old timers" running common rail injection systems at 10,000+ psi?

Any thing more then about 5000 psi of fuel pressure I run away form.
When I'm running 2% or 3% gasoline there is about 10% used motor oil in or vegetable oil there too.
Their is no lack of lube in my fuel.
Also gas has a certane of some where between 5 and 20.
Some gas makes diesel smell kind of like JP-4.

Filling up with gas and using 2%-3% is a little different.
