Hey all, has anyone here rewired their fuel pump main power source wire to a heavier gauge? I been told I should do that to keep the lift pump from buring out beucase of the drain that the smaller gauge wire puts on the lift pump....Any thoughts would be great

it wouldn't be a bad idea, for the resistance values in the wiring. but it won't burn out the lift pump. theres a few things to be concered with and wire gauge is close to the bottom of the list in my book. fsd/pmd is the highest to be worried about.

Lift pump problem isn't low voltage from wire size as much as it was the contact size inside the OPS (undersized), thus the contacts burn out, yielding an inoperative lift pump.

Problem still exists on 96+, 2 paths of trons for OBD-II lift pumps, PCM prior to start, and OPS once it's running,

Actually IIRC power is always routed through the OPS it's the control of the OPS that is either PCM or oil pressure to keep it closed once oil pressure & sufficient engine rpm.

I'll need to hit the manual again to confirm I got it right unless sombody else can remember what the book says

The power is always on the orange wire to the OPS on my 95.

You can hear the lift pump running for a couple of seconds after engine shuts off.

turbine doc, There is a relay that powers the LP before oil pressure comes up
at engine start, The OPS will power the LP if the Relay fails,

The OPS keeps the LP running untill oil pressure drops...

From the 2 forms I read, I have not noticed many problems with the
96 and later,,,
