it seems i can get better milage if i keep rpm from 1500-2000 , i just traveled from london ky. to houghten mi.,, fuel milage got real bad [8-9] just after mackinaw bridge going there ,,on the way back i tryed keeping rpm's at 1500-2000 using man mode or going 65-70 and got 12-14 mpg's,on the way there i noticed rpm's at 1100-1300 do to only going 45-55 mph [wind and traffic] try this and see if it helps you too,it apears lbz's don't like to be lugged,thats why these trucks like to run fast on the open road [ till mpg's drop off at over 2200 rpm]

Without the BD-Power Pup; I got 15 MPG around Town. With the Pup on "Tow-Econ" I got 16.2. I just completed 360-Miles (Two Re-Fills) with the Pup on "Performance", and "Hand-Calculated". I'm (now) averaging 18 MPG (Around Town)
I have 3600-Miles on her and "No-Towing" yet...
Again; I have a 4x2 2500HD... And I drive "Light-Footed". But... City-Driving, 18 MPG ? ? ? (The last fill-up was 10.46 Gal at 189-Miles)

You have to factor in other things such as terrain and wind. I once got 15.5 mpg on a 1978 4wd pick up - an impossible task considering best the truck would do was 12. The reason? There was a constant 50 - 60 mile per hour tail wind that day (I'm glad I wan't traveling against it - mpg would have been around 7!).
I am guessing on your trip north you experienced winds out the west/north west, the normal weather pattern. This would help account for the poor milage. On the return trip, you most likely had the wind at your back. It can make a HUGE difference!

When I was a stroker and was hanging out over on the Ford Diesel Stop forums, all those guys would say to keep the 7.3's under 2,000 rpm to get the best fuel mileage. Now that I'm driving an LBZ, I've been wondering if there was a similar threshold on these engines.
Are y'all saying 2,200 is the rpm to stay under or do they do equally just as well in the 1500-2,000 rpm range?

KEEP UR FOOT OUT OF IT lol seriously ive kept my foot out and also driven hard and never noticed enough of a differenct to justify drivin like a granny
just hook a 10,000-15,000 lb trailer to it and try to granny it,yes on the way there i had a bad head wind,but this is the 4th time iv done this run,, 2 times on my 02 d/a cc 3500,and 2 times on this 06 and it seems more rpm sensitive[don't go over 2200 rpm 6-7 mpg] then the 02

5000 on it now, best i ever got was 16.5. around town and running into the wind usually around 14.5. will be pulling 18,000 carriage to fl, ny, in and mn this summer and will update then. i am expecting 8-9. my o3 lb7 would do an honest17.5 and 10 respectively. my 04.5 srw lly would do 17 and 10, installed banks six-gun and now is 19 and 10. go figure?

Tom S.--are you sure you weren't riding with me in that '78 Chevy?? I used to have a '78 chevy with Skyjacker lift, 35's, and a 383 Stroker. On a trip to Iowa, I had a tail-wind the whole way there and pulled over 15mpg, the next day the winds were the same and I had to fill up 45 miles from home...I figured this to be around 6.5 mpg!-:t

I got 20 mpg out of mine the other day. Currently at 7800 total miles. Kept the spedo under 62 mph which is running in the 1600rpm range. I was on some backroads without many stops.
Anything of 65mph and the mileage drops very fast.

06 LLY with 6 speed ally, currently around 2500 miles. On the freeway I am seeing between 19 - 21 ( between 65 - 70 MPH ) and around town 16 - 18. The truck is 100% stock, no tonneau cover, or anything covering the bed. I am hoping with a tonneau cover and more mileage I might see 22 MPG on the freeway, that would be about 5 MPG better than my V6 Toyota. :lol:
Before add-ons I was getting about 16 city and a bit under 21 hwy. Now after Bully PP and 315s, I think I've picked up about 1 city and as much as 3 hwy. The big thing is the operating rpm. Before I was running 2100 rpm @ 60 mph, now it's around 1600 rpm!!! I have not had a chance to tow yet, but will post findings soon.
