Ok guys, I have been lurking around here for sometime looking at the fuel filtration options. I am leaning towards either the CAT or Racor setup. I know these have been discussed several times but I have a couple questions which I can't seem to find answers too.

First off, I have noticed that alot of people seem to be mounting them along the frame rail by cutting the fuel lines. How are you guys going about doing this without fear of getting metal particles in the fuel lines?

As far as setup choice. Is there anywhere online to order an entire Racor assembly similiar to the Nicktane CAT installation? I am leaning towards the Nicktane setup although I like the water bowl and drain system of the Racor.

How often would one have to change the OEM filter once you have a pre-OEM filter installed?

Thanks for helping out a newbie.

I have my filter installed on the frame rail but did not cut the metal fuel line. I removed the flexible fuel line with the two quick disconnects that goes from the fuel tank to the metal fuel line behind the fuel cooler. Connected the Racor into these two points. The fuel system can be restored to stock condition in about 15 minutes.

The CAT system that Nick developed connects in exactly the same manner.

I have not had the supplemental fuel filter installed long enough to let you know how long it will last. My assumption is between 5k to 10k miles. I will be monitoring the suction at the fuel system test port. When is rises more than 2 inHg with the truck in a static condition, I will consider changing the filters.Edited by: OC_DMAX

I hope racor does release something, although something tells me they won't. their tech said their kit is going to require cutting the steel fuel lines. frame-rail installs don't work with larger fuel tanks either. i think they missed the boat on a mounting location. with the CAT filter and mileage, i'm guess about 12-15k. right now i'm at almost 10k with no problems.

Nick---Please explain your remark about "Frame--rail installs don't work with larger fuel tanks" What is the problem with this install. Not enough room or is there something else?
