Here is a photo of my fuel filter media (K3500 DRW in my sig) after the interval above...I still had 5% fuel filter life left on my DIC, but this was the last weekend that I was going to have free for the next couple of months, so I changed it today. My last one had just shy of 19K miles and the media looked just about the same. Baldwin BF7827 fuel filter.

Just like before, the media had two dark vertical bands (left side of the media in the photo) about an inch wide on opposite sides that go from bottom to top, but there was still plenty of white media (right side of the media in the photo) that was most of the filter. I run a Lubrication Specialist auxiliary fuel filter (pre-OE that I change at 10K mile intervals) and Stanadyne performance formula.

I run the Nicktane filter and my stock one seems to get very little use. I switched to doubling it's service life a while back.

Yep, the first time I changed the auxiliary filter after 10K miles, it was only dark on the bottom 1/8 of the filter media. So, I figure I'm good for around 20K miles on the filter at the OE location. So, are you ignoring the DIC fuel filter minder, too?

I have been changing the Nicktane (CAT) at 8-10K since they are so inexpensive and my OEM once a year just before vacation at 13-15K. The OEM at 15K looks similiar to the one in the picture.

Fuel filter changed at 145,000 km's

I changed my fuel filter today with about 145,000 km's on it. It was blacker then the above one with some sand in the bottom of the bowl, no water or other dirt. I changed the LP and winter is coming so thought it would be a good time to change it. Are you people finding much more then just clean filters at all or are they full of curd?

Well, I finally remembered to take a photo. This is pre-OE filter media - Baldwin BF1223 - after 11,058 miles, and a few out-of-state fill ups. First time I've had the dark band of contaminants near the top of the media.

That's a LubeFiner w/ ~15,000 miles. Pre-OEM 2 micron is coming soon.
