Just picked up my new LML over the weekend. Of course I am pretty thrilled with the truck - 2011 CCSB LTZ 4WD. I used stanadyne performance formula in my 05 lly with great results, in fact I still have about a gallon of the stuff. I would like to run it in my LML and am wondering what others have found out regarding additives with the urine and stuff now. Owners manual is not much help, kind of says ask the dealer, kind of says no, kind of says if you must run an additive then no alcohol and no emlusifiers.

kinda like asking about religon and politics.
Lots of passionate views, not always backed up by facts.

FWIW. GM doesn't recommend them and generally frowns on it.

My take is that anything put in the fuel may upset the delicate chemical changes that this new emissions equiptment does to the exhaust. Since there are many different formulations on the market and a lot of secrecy, I can see why GM is hesitant to endorse them. They may very well mess up some exspensive emission parts.

I have never used any additives, and never had any problems.
Others will state the same after using additives all the time.

So the only difference I see is that I have more money in my wallet.

YMMV

Can't say about new ones.
But I use Opti-Lube XPD, my thought more or less if you stick to a good name brand such as Stanadyne then you should be fine.
I did notice a gain in MPG and also a smoother running engine.
On the other hand newer engines are supposed to be made to run ULSD with no additives.
Oh, and it's urea not urine.

Im running PS Diesel Kleen (Grey bottle in the spring-summer. White bottle in the fall-winter.)
I notice a big difference in performance when I dont use an additive.
I use it on every fill up. My MPG is up by @ least 0.5-1.0 gal, but I say thats due to the truck breaking in.
Get an additive that says wont damage the DPF.

I thought urea WAS urine (based anyway), just my little joke there...

Seems like at least a couple others r using Stanadyne Performance formula with no trouble....Aprilwine, Norskeole would you say the stanadyne has helped your truck run smoother? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I know the LMLs are designed to run ULSD without additives, while my 05 was a LSD truck and the Performance formula really helped it run smoother, kept balance rates good and even masked a slight lope that was likely related to FPR wear. Just wondering if it is as worth it with an LML and if in fact it could cause problems or trouble with my warranty.

Mine runs really smooth but I honestly can't say because I've used the Stanadyne since the first fill up. LML's are designed to run on ULSD but since sulpher was one of the main lubricants in Diesel fuel the oil companies had to put other lubricants in the fuel to make up for the loss of the sulpher. Using an additive essentially puts back the lubricants that were lost with the advent of ULSD. There is no way using this stuff in an LML would cause any warranty problems.
I feel that using the proper fuel additive is beneficial to your engine, not a detriment. Lack of lubrication will kill an engine pretty fast so having extra doesn't hurt. I know lots of people will disagree with me and say it's a waste of money but I get piece of mind using it. I get Stanadyne by the case and it costs me about $3.00 to do 30 gallons of fuel. A cheap investment in my eyes. JMHO
