Just wondering if and what people were using for fuel additives. Had somebody that had a Ford Powerstroke tell me the Lucas fuel treatment was good. Also at what intervals should it be used? Just curious but has anybody ran their 6.5's on a dragstrip? Just wondering in case the Chevelle gives up the ghost and I need a back-up bracket car :driver:

I use Power Service in every tank. I put about 8-10 oz per fill up. I have a 25gallon tank on my Blazer, and been doing it for the last 244,000 miles. I have used Lucas before when I didn't have Power service, the store was out, etc... I'm just in the habit of buying PS. Since the new fuel is out (ULSD) I tell everyone I know with a diesel you really need to use some kind of additive. Like they say "Better safe than sorry".

The Power Service Diesel Kleen & Cetane boost? Funny since that was what I bought at the parts store that enthused me to make that post. Have been using the Lucas every other fuel tank fill-up. Been trying to like you said since they switched to the ULSD fuel. Better safe than sorry couldn't be applied better. Thanks

Stanadyne fuel additive seems to be the choice around, and is what I run, but some guys use other brands as well. Also after reading several posts here as of late I have been adding 8oz of 2 cycle oil as well to each tankfull with the advent of the ULSD.

Bud, you run the 2-cycle oil as well as the Stanadyne additive? Will try the 2-cycle oil as well if it helps with the ULSD fuel, any brand in particular that you guys prefer? Thanks.

No brand of 2 cycle oil in particular. When and whereever I see it on sale I will pickup a quart or two. This is my first tankful with adding 2 cycle oil. I don't notice any difference but I am sure hoping my IP is :) .

i've been running powerservice off and on since i owned this truck but definetely everytank gets it after the gelling fuel incident but i use about 1 ounce of power service for every 3 gallons of diesel and 2-cycle about 1 ounce to 2 gallons

I just started wityh the 2-stroke myself, and I noticed quieter cold starts, but more white smoke... anyone else?

I put a quart for a fullup - (2 tanks 32 gallons i think)

Thing to remember with additive is unless it has a lubricant in it your thinning out the diesel so it's less lubricating than it was to start with. Also in the winter time other people are thinning it out as well.

It can't possibly have the lubricity it was supposed to have originally. So it's more important to add a lubricant.

If it's summer time and your using good diesel your additive is still thinning it out, so your additive needs to have a lubricant year around.

2 cycle oil to any additive can't hurt.

i run howes fuel conditioner( i think thats the right name), comes in clear 2quart bottles, i mix one with every time i fill my slip tank if i remember, its good for 950L but i dump it all in and my tank is aprx 400L

I use the stanadyne one shot. Figure I can't got wrong with running the stuff from the same company that makes the IP.

Upon learning about the 2-cycle oil I have modified my ****tail.

96 with 32 gal tank gets 6 oz Power Service and 6 oz 2-cycle oil (marine grade in the gallon jugs). Normal fill is about 27 gal.

99 with the 42 gal tank get 8 oz Power Service and 8 oz 2-cycle. Normal fill 32 gal... I tell the wife it is better for a diesel to not go below 1/4 tank :) Really I want her to plan ahead and not run out of fuel considering diesel is not on every street corner.

Preferably I would run the Stanadyne additive instead of PowerService, but I need to get a big order of the Stanadyne since it is expensive locally.

All good advice, now to just get myself to remember pouring it in every time I fuel up! Thinking about having bottles pre-mixed with additive/2-cycle there in behind the seat ready to pour in.

That's what I've done. My brother's girlfriend drinks bottled water 16oz bottles. I'm running 8oz Stanadyne performance and 32 oz 2 cycle. Fill one bottle with the Stanadyne and top off with 2 cycle and another with just the 2 cycle. Dump both in then fill with diesel. Sure beats measuring at the pump and cheaper than buying the little bottles.
