Someday I'll break down and buy a toy hauler, but for now I need to figure out how to pull my 30' travel trailer (bumper pull), my KTM 450, the sons CRF50, and the wifes quad. I can fit the 50 and the quad in the bed of the truck together, so I'm thinking of installing a front 2" receiver and carrying the 450 there. Another factor is that the factory front bumper is starting to rust, so I'm also considering an aftermarket HD bumper with, or without, the receiver built-in.

Does anyone here use a front-mounted receiver and a motorcycle rack currently? If so, can you post pictures?

Has anyone tried an aftermarket winch bumper (like ARB, Iron Bull, Iron Cross, etc...) with a separate front hitch installed? I'm afraid that the bumpers with the receiver built-in would carry the bike significantly higher than the hood.

Truck is a 2005 Sierra 2500HD CC/LB 4x4 LLY

I do not have experience with hanging a motorcycle on the front, but this is what mine looks like. I don't think that you will find a bumper mounted receiver any lower than this one.

I have a front reciever on the front of my 04.5 for hauling a bike, (KTM400EXC or KTM200XC). Reciever hitch mounts with 4 bolts to the frame. Now looking for one for my 2015. Much easier than getting bikes in/out of the bed. Bike rack is made by "Sarge", Curt and others make a front reciever hitch with a 500lb rating for the 05.

A couple of things you might consider:

When towing travel trailers, weight-transfer bars are normally used to transfer weight to the front end of the tow vehicle that was removed by having a lot of weight put on the back end from the trailer's tongue weight. However, if you put several hundred pounds on the front end by carrying a bike there, you probably won't need to use weight transfer bars with the trailer because any weight "removed" from the front end by the trailer weight is compensated for by weight from the bike. At least, this sounds logical to me.

However, if the design of your trailer hitch system integrates the sway control feature with the weight transfer mechanism, then not using the weight transfer bars would eliminate the sway control feature. To overcome this, you could use the classic anti-sway bars that fit on small balls on the hitch, since this design does not depend on weight transfer bars to provide anti-sway benefits.

Gunrok 02 LB7 - Who makes that bumper? That's pretty sweet, and looks like it would solve a lot of issues for me... New bumper, winch mount, low receiver, D-rings... VERY nice!

This particular bumper cost less than $1000 and appears to be as good as, if not better, than the other aftermarket choices. It is not an off the shelf bumper. They have a build your own section on the web site but if you call them, I think they will build it however you want with whatever you want on it.

Even with a 250lb bike on the front of my truck, I still need WD. Yes, I do add weight to the front axle, but not near enough to not need WD. Part of the reason is that the weight on the rear hitch is quite a ways behind the rear truck axle, so it has more leverage than weight on the front bumper from a bike like the OP is going to carry. I do have lots of tongue weight (1300lbs) and I suspect the OP has something near 1000lbs + on the tongue as well based on his trailer description.

But with the bike on the front rechecking the WD setup is IMHO a requirement. GM's do NOT want to have the front axle drop more than factory ride height, If you do you ride on the bump stops which makes for a VERY uncomfortable ride. Most GM trucks have virtually no clearance between the bump stop and frame at stock ride height, so any added front weight will try to compress the bump stops, which are very stiff.

Found a solution!

After looking at all the options for front-mounted hitches for carrying a motorcycle, I decided to go another route! The potential cooling issues, and especially the headlight interference were issues I just couldn't overcome without concessions, so I went with a bed cover by Diamondback!

DiamondBack ATV/UTV Carrier – An ATV or side-by-side hauler *and* a truck bed cover all-in-one.

I'll post some pics soon. I went with the Line-X coating and the HD cover with the full ATV package. I'd always wanted to put a cover on, but I also need the ability to carry these machines... and the two just never seemed to go together until now.

They're designed and manufactured right here in PA, so I drove to their facility in Phillipsburg (just outside State College) and had them install it right on the truck for me. While they were doing that, I was escorted around the building and got to see the entire manufacturing process. Pretty slick if you ask me! Yeah... it was pricey, but you get what you pay for, right?
