Yep, that's right. Here's the story...
20x10 (-12mm) Diamo 17 Karat
20x9 (+18mm) KMC XD Series 779 Badlands
20x10 (-18mm) Moto Metal 951
About 3-4 weeks ago, maybe less, I sold my 305/55/20 (33") Nitto Terra Grapplers to a local DP member. With that money, I purchased a new set of 325/60/20 (35") Nitto Terra Grapplers. While I was there, one of the guys that was working on my truck noticed some slight pitting in the wheels (all of them). It was close to the inside of the wheel where it was pitting. It really didn't bother me, nor did I say anything about it. It wasn't that bad.
Anyhow, he went and told his manager about them. The manager came back and said that he was going to get me a brand new set. I was thrilled! So 2 days later after I did some searching around, I called up the manager at Discount Tire. I told him that I really didn't want the same wheels because I didn't want the same thing to happen all over again and plus, I really wasn't happy with the offset of the wheels. So I requested that I get a different wheel and he agreed! I was stunned!
So that's when I went with the 20x9 (+18mm) KMC XD Series 779 Badlands. Anyhow, they switched wheels, balanced them, then when they get to the rear wheels, they don't fit on my $350 wheel spacers. I was so upset. After thinking about it, I said go ahead and remove the wheel spacers and install the wheels. So off I go. Well I did some more research to see what the bore size of the old/original wheel I had because I had my wheel spacers machined exactly to them. 130.8mm. The new wheels had a hub bore of 117mm. In standard/inches terms, that's about a 1/2" difference. So I would have to remove 1/4" off the lip of the wheel spacer. Not possible. There wasn't enough material there. So I was SOL on these wheels.
I do MORE searching and decided that I'm going to go with the wheel I considered long ago when I FIRST started looking around for 20s. It was a toss up between the wheels that I originally got (20x10 (-12mm) Diamo 17 Karat and the Moto Metal 951. Both wheels were my 2 favorites out of all the wheels I looked at, but at the time, I chose the Diamo 17 Karat.
But now that I had the opportunity to get ANOTHER set of wheels, I had to go with the Moto Metal 951. I know they're not a new wheel and lots of people have them, but I still like them...A LOT! I'm very happy with the choice I made and as soon as it stops raining over here (its been raining pretty much for the past week), I will snap some pics of the new wheels.
I am kinda glad that the KMC 779 Badlands didn't work out because I didn't like them as much as I thought I was going to. They look much better on the net than in person. PLUS, I really didn't like the offset. Although they did tuck in nicely and had better clearance for the front when turning, the wheels just weren't deep enough. The new wheels stick out just a tad more than the old ones, but the design/look of the wheel makes up for it.
By the way, I am very thankful and lucky because I didn't pay one red cent for any of this. Just some of my time and a trip to Discount Tire. Great customer service!
