I currently have 4" head pipe (no cat), 4" Flowmaster muffler, and stock o.e.m. exhaust tail pipe. It's kind of a haggled together looking deal. I'd like to run the Summit 4" system (I have always had good luck with their products). I've seen the installed pictures here on line, but I've never experienced it in person. Will the summit system have any more drone than what the chambered muffler would produce? Right now, it is tolerable and not bothersome at any speed. I have only the slightest detectable drone at any RPM (I know outside, it hums pretty well). At cruise (always around 21-2200 RPM on the HWY) it is fairly quiet. I would not mind having a full 4" system that is all one clean piece (what I have is fairly banged up).

Any educated thoughts on this? I'll take the non educated ones too!

If the manufacturer doesn't make claims about reduced or eliminated drone, chances are pretty good that it will drone and some point in the power band.

Corsa claims that their straight through 4" system has absolutely no drone. Banks claims to have reduced drone. Neither system is cheap.

If you go with the summit brand and find that it drones, you can add a baffle for about $70.

My Summit Stainless 4" fit great. It does have some drone. Not horrible but still there. It really mellows the tone. None of that full throttle crackle some systems have. All in all very happy.

I know its not what you're asking but lots of systems have drone. Some tolerate it and others do not. I ran a Magnaflow for a couple years on my 04.5 LLY. Good system but too much drone for me. I switched to MBRP and the drone was almost gone

I'd be interested to hear a "drone free" system.

Its a loud bass in the exhaust that sounds like a prop driven aircraft. Its only at a certain rpm. My Magnaflow was at 50 to about 75 mph. I personally found it annoying.

My friends 04 LB7 has the summit 5 '' kit turbo back without kittie or muffler. This thing sounds awesome. It reminds me of a big block chevelle , deep and throaty when on it and nice and mellow while cruising. You'll like , go for it! Great fit too.

I am trying to decide weather or not it's worth it to start upgrading (compensating for the fact I want a roomier truck) or just let it go and spend the money on an extended cab. But if I do upgrade, I don't want to cause a head ache (full on pun intended). I hear lots of good things about the Summit system. I wonder if there is an validity to getting 5" when I don't even have a tune yet. Sounds like over kill and more opportunity to buzz ears inside the cab. I drive 1000 miles continuously twice a month and I can't risk an annoying system. Maybe I'll order a resonator too....

_ my system drones, make no mistake, but it does not buzz the cabin. All I hear is turbo whine ):h
