My '02 has no visual indicator that the doors have locked when I use the remote. Often I cant hear the locks, and it would be nice if the lights would flash or something to confirm the doors are indeed locked. Has anyone tried it or has it been discussed? I dont necessarily always want to push the button twice and beep the horn. I couldnt find anything with a search. Thanks.

You may find your answer in the owners manual, if not then the dealer can customize what you want with the tech-2.

If you have the buttons on the steering-wheel you can program it from there.

Thanks for the suggestions, but no steering wheel buttons. Also the owners manual says the lights flash on unlock with remote but no mention of being able to program them to flash on lock.

My '02 Silverado z71 only "flashed" upon unlocking the doors.....didn't flash when locking.....only the sound of the horn after 2nd press of the lock button.

Same thing I do when I need to know a remote lock succeeded. No need to look back to confirm, just push the lock button twice. And it's not one of those really load anoying indications either, just real light horn honk that you will hear. I think it's far better than flashing lights.

Thanks, but I'm familiar with the '02 remote.

Where I live, its easy to get sloppy about locking the truck - especially during the day. When I go to bed at midnight and cant remember if I locked it, it would be nice to look out the living room window and push the button once and see the lights flash to know its locked. No need to go outside in pajamas at 0*F and no beep to annoy the neighbors. Similar in campgrounds to lock it at night from inside my 5er. etc.

I think the flashing lights are backwards, anyways. For me, it would be much more useful to have visual confirmation that its LOCKED from a distance rather than to have lights flash when I just UNLOCKED it from a couple of feet away.

So thats the reasoning behind it. I would like to see it flash on both LOCK and UNLOCK....but before I attempt to re-invent the wheel, I was wondering if anyone else had tried or discussed it.

The interior lights turn on for a few seconds when the truck is locked. It is easy to see that the truck has locked in the dark.

Perfect! Thank you! I never noticed that before, with the tinted windows and all. If its really quiet I can hear a relay clicking as the dome light turns on/off when the truck locks. I just have to locate that relay and use it with a diode (similar to all-on headlight mod) to turn on the exterior lights relay for a couple of seconds when the doors lock. One flash for lock, two for unlock. Should be easy. Thanks again.

The dome light is lit when Pin 87 of the Courtesylamp relay is grounded. And the Parkinglamp relay is energized by grounding Pin 86. A diode from Pin 87 of the Courtesylamp relay to Pin 86 of the Parklamp relay, with cathode to Pin 87, will cause the parking lights to come on whenever the dome light is lit.

Its not ideal, but it WILL flash the parking lights once for 1-2 seconds when locking the doors. It will still chirp the horn when the security system is activated and flash the lights twice when unlocking the doors.

Both relays are in the MBEC so, except for being a contortionist, shouldnt be too hard, when the weather warms up a bit.

Any comments from the electronics gurus? Did I miss anything, or is there a better way? This is all just theory, so far.

I dont know if the dealer could program it to flash the lights when locking the doors, but they have a minimum $49.95 charge  to hook up the TechII to do anything.

 Somebody finally figured out a lighting related mod for the 01-02's that uses diodes  I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Try it and keep us posted.
