I have a few questions for everyone. How often is everyone changing the OEM fuel filter? I know that the owner's manual says 15k miles, but I here some people are doing it every 5k.


Also, is Baldwin a good choice to go with for the Fuel and Oil filters? I have found a place on the web that sells the Baldwin oil filters for $7 as apposed to $13 for the AC Delco from the dealer. The same website sells the Balwin fuel filter for $27 as appposed to $45 from the dealer.

I use the Baldwin oil filter. Baldwin is an excellent choice (My opinion). I have cut one open and looks to be of good quality. The Baldwin part has one of the better specs with regard to filtration. The $7 price is a good one. What internet side are you going to?


With regard to fuel filters, at this point it appears as if Racor makes the only OEM type fuel filter. Racor just relabels their product for use by other filter manufactures. (A good source for the fuel filters in your State of Texas is Diesel Injection Services. Try www.dieselpage.com which is their website. Their prices may be slightly lower than the $27 you mention.)


I would not go more than 10K miles without changing the fuel filter (my opinion). It really depends on the quality of fuel you purchase. I have changed fuel filters at 8K and 5K miles. In both cases the filters were clean inside (no rust) and each more useful life left. However, I have seen pictures posted where a 7K mile filter was rusted severely inside (an indication of water being present). Maybe for the first time or so, cut one of your old ones open to get a feel for the condition.


A thought, inspect the filters you purchase for rust. Return immediately if any significant quantities are found.Edited by: OC_DMAX

27 dollars for the fuel filter is WAY too much. Shop around on the web you can do much better.

That is amazing they are selling that filter at that price. I assume this is build to the spec for the Durmax. I will order some from them soon.

I would assume it is the same filter since it has the same part number. Is it true that if you use a different filter and you have a problem with it (blows off) that your warranty will be voided?

One of the big problems with anyone handling the Racor OEM filter is Racor has been jumping the price every other week. Since spring the wholesale cost has gone up almost 30%. I have been able to beat on my supplier enough to keep that cost down some. THey have bought enough stock to keep them and myself going for a few months at the current price.

The AC Delco filter is an after market filter. If you go to the GM parts place you don't get and AC filter. It is in a different box with a GM part number on it. It is a Racor filter. Not sure what the AC filter is and the price sure is suspecious because the GM filter is $41 and change vs $7.97 for the AC. If it is the same filter then something is wrong with this picture.

Less then 8 bucks is good price for oil filter, I cant beat that. Anything over 20 is too much for fuel filter, I can beat that all day long..

Where is it that you are beating the fuel filter price and what kind of filter is it? My earlier question about the AC Delco filter hasn't been answered yet. It is hard to believe AC Delco would and can sell the filter for $7.97 and GM parts for $41.00. I have checked all over the web for filters and the next lowest is $22.02 at DIS when they are not out of stock. O'Reilly and Autozone are $30.00 to $40.00 dollars and the Donaldson filter from the CAT dealer is $39.00. ADIESEL is $27.67 for the Baldwin. Price wise AC Delco from Advance auto parts on line is by far the winner but what are they selling at that price.

Tom, the fuel filters I carry are boxed as Fram. I have verified in more ways then on thats its identical to the oem filter in every way but the writing on the can. I sent one to Mdrag and he has cut it open and compared with oem and found no differences. I sell at the same price as oilgaurd.


The Oil filters (pf2232) are a/c delco and no issues with warr will be had. These are the oem filters. The Black filter on the 03 trucks is indentical in every way except the can color.

The $7 filter that you are talking about is the AC PF2232 oil filter.

FYI - the black OEM filter for sure is made by Champion. I cut it apart a year and a half ago and found the name Champion written in several places. The filter was well constructed.
