The dealer I bought my truck from has offered me an additional 72k mile and 5 years of bumper to bumper coverage with 0 dedutible for 2k. Does this sound like a good deal?

This is my personal opionion so take it FWIW, extended warranties are for the most part worthless. $2,000 buys a lot of repairs.

You are really only purchasing an additional 24 months or 36,000 miles (over factory). (typically! the way you worded your post maybe yours is differant but I'd check with the dealer to confirm). My wife got one on her Suburban with $50 deduct for about $1,400, never used it.:(

Most financial people I know feel money is better spent when needed not as a preemptory payment for piece of mind.

I have purchased 2 in the past and have gotten $0 return and therefore do not have on my 05' D-max.

Best of luck on your decision.

Is it an additional 72K and 5 years or extend to 72K and 5 years just adding to the original factory of 36K or 3 year? Usually these are just a waste of money UNTIL something happens. I'd also shop the internet and it's probably cheaper as we found with wife's new Charger.

You can definately find them cheaper. Shop around and also look at credit unions. My credit union was about half of what the dealer wanted that was on an old 99 Tahoe when I bought it new. I agree with kc steve save your money 2000 goes along way.

it is also hard to get stuff out of gm. my mirrors froze after i washed my truck they will not retract anymore. tried to down grade so this problem would not happen again they said no even though it was cheaper for them. the mirrors i wanted were 620 out the door. the warantied replacement mirrors were over 1200. donkeys

Ok heres the deal, just got off the phone with the dealer. I would get 6 years plus 72k miles from where I'm at now. I currently have 33k miles, so that would bring me up to 100k bumper to bumper with a zero deductible. Also I'm getting 800 dollars back from my last extended warranty that I never used, which brings the price of this one down to 1200.00. Due to all the heavy towing I do, and after just reading on here the last few days, I think 1200 bucks for the next six years for piece of mind is worth it.

There is no such thing as bumper to bumper after your factory warranty. Make sure you read the fine print. Most will only cover certain items. They will either cover parts or labor. I saw alot of issues with this at the dealer. Aftermarket mostly covers powertrain only, with the exception of a few other items.

I would say that if it is actually a GMPP warranty that it is a good deal and I would take it. If it is some other kind of warranty I would walk away. Just my 2 cents.

If it's bumper to bumper, I'd do it. But I've not seen any of those, not to say they aren't out there. All I've seen are powertrain only, excluding electrical which is all that will probably go wrong, and then it's a crap shoot and that includes the old lady's Hemi.

The factory is the only one that can offer bumper to bumper the rest are either exclusionary which list what is not covered "bumper to bumper", or the itemized which list what is covered. After alot of research warrantiesdirect.com was the most trusted. If you are not in california like myself you are lucky you have a choice my only choice is a stealer. I will never go without an extended warranty though my last truck was used and spun the main bearing 2 months after I bought it would have cost about 7000$ but only had to pay the 100$ ded.

I have an o4.5 LLY 2500 HD as of 61,000km ( I have extended warranty- paid approx $2500) warranty replaced rear seal , water fuel sensor ($550) , injector ( $1000...??) , $1500 worth of parts and labour on transfer case ( silicone got into pump causing failure etc) . So with approx 3 yrs and or 39,000 km left extend is paying off.

FWIW, Extended Warranties pay off sometimes but it's really like insurance. You pay but you may not collect. I've had mixed results and it's all predicated on how reliable the vehicle is.

Also, remember that the EW runs concurrently with the mfgr warranty. So, the 36 month mfgr warranty period is the first half of a 72 month extended warranty. All you are getting is an additional 36 months.

Read the warranty terms. You may think you are buying a warranty that is similar to the bumper to bumper warranty, however, many do not cover everything. It may be limited to major components only.

Any warranty may be voided if you have aftermarket items on the truck. A dealer may tell you that your transmission warranty was voided because you put on an aftermarket air intake or exhaust. Don't buy it! The law requires that the burden of proof, that the aftermarket modification was directly the cause of the component failure, is on the warranty provider.

Finally, shop around. There are better prices, better warranties (coverage wise specific to the whole truck vs. major components) and some that may start after the original mfgr warranty is over. So, be careful about the dealer telling you something like, "Additional warranty..." It may not be so.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

If you buy the GM MAjor guard at the end of the 3/36 ( whichever comes first ) you will have the EXACT SAME as the factory bumper to bumper excluding wear items from that time and milage forward, if you do not use it ,it is refundable so thought should be given to a cheap fix before you use it.My warranty goes to 95950 and I likley will use the miles up b4 the time. I put 91,000 on my 04.5 and got a refund , this one is 52,000 into the 95950 and has never seen the dealer so I will likley get it back as well , I paid $1800 for a 60mo60thou with a 100 ded. DONT BUY A AFTERMARKET WARRANTY!!!

Carhauler, I can't find anything about a full refund at www.gmprotectionplan.com. Are you referring to a prorated refund? A full refund sounds too good to be coming from GM.

I have an 05 with 5000 miles. My warranty will run out by time instead of milage. I got an extend warranty offer form Tech II Protection. They are from Bedford TX. I can get 100,000 mile unlimited time. Doesn't matter if it takes 20 years to put 100,000 miles on it. Its gonna cost $963. What do you guys think.
Heres the website:

I was at the dealer today with a man that just bought a new 07 dully... HE spent 1600.00 on an extended warranty for the truck that took the warranty to 60,000/6 years...

As I was standing outside the salesman's office I was reading all the wall signs... One that caught my interest was the 100,000 mile/5 year full drive train NO deductible FACTORY warranty on all 07 products.. Also included was free rent cars and roadside assistance.... That's from GM mind you....

As he came out of the office I pointed to it and asked him just what he was getting for his 1,600.00 :)

"Apparently not much" was his answer as he tore off in search of the Finance Manager that had talked him into buying it :)

Now that they are giving such a good warranty why waste any money on extended products?
