I believe as long as you only do a Cat-back system you will be ok. The only time you should get a code is when you replace the frontpipe or what is called a turbo-back or downpipe back system. It should lower your EGTs a bit going to a 4", but you won't get the full potential until you get rid of the cat. If you do that, you will need a fingerstick and egr blocker. Do a search and you will get plenty of info.

OB 1jr hit the nail on the head. Keep in mind that as long as the cat in there it is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system. You will get some benefit from a cat back system, plus you will keep the truck safe according to the people that govern emissions. But you will gain much better performance with a front pipe back system. Lower egt's and much improved flow, plus a great sounding system as well.
