Got my evo installed and ready to go yesterday, having fun, havent tried 2nd or 3rd setting yet...
questions though...
1. Does evo defuel at shifts? if not, does it have any safe guard for transmission?
2. anyone else running it in the blue lcd screen, mine kind of has waves running through it.
3. Would my transmission be safe in the 2nd mode in WOT?
4. If not, would it be safe in the first setting?!
5. Today I was messing around with it, changing different settings and I kept getting an error code 17. and my PCM was stuck, i couldnt even start my truck, tried several times, called edge and it just seemed to work then, wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Now im kind of scared to try to select a different setting, and I am hoping that the evo still has my correct stock settings in it since this whole thing happened.

Sorry for the long post, thank you.:)

2. anyone else running it in the blue lcd screen, mine kind of has waves running through it. Haven't noticed this.
3. Would my transmission be safe in the 2nd mode in WOT? As long as you are lightly loaded.
4. If not, would it be safe in the first setting?! First setting seems fairly harmless

When programming do not do anything to the truck(open and close doors or touch any buttons). I used this technique with my Quadzilla and never had any problems. I also shut the truck off and open the door before programming and then after turn the key off and then start it.

Try the third setting it is pretty awesome but only if your lightly loaded and have your pyrometer hooked up. It gets hot quick.

I would find it hard to believe if level 2 would hurt the tranny b/c they says its only 35 hp. If that happened I would come to the conclusion that the ally isnt as great as everyone thinks. Who knows tho. Mine shifts great in 2...but am doing the jr jsut to be safe.

BTW i noticed the waves only when 2 PIDS are displayed in the bar style

I think in this case HP isn't the problem, torque is quite high compared with stock. Your a Cummins guy, you should understand the torque vs. horsepower balony. I wouldn't dare get on it in #2 with a stock tranny, I just don't see it being good for the clutch plates. I also don't believe the 35 HP claim, I think it's a marketing tool to get you to buy the $700 units, or maybe torque is the key here.

I thought they said to tow in 2? I am thinking of an EVO but don't want to have to get my Transmission built up. I like to keep it stock and gain just a little MPG towing and around town... 10-12mpg towing a small snowmobile trailer is not that great!

You have to keep in mind that the lbz is already bumped up to 360/650 from the factory (GM is pushing the stock ally to win the advertising numbers war) and adding 35 hp (I believe it is a lil more also) puts it right at 400 hp. The ally is a great tranny as long as the engine is left stock it will last. No transmission in the world will last if it has more power applied than it was designed for hence you wanna play you gotta pay. If you want a comparison my buddy has a dodge he bought a year ago and added the edge J/A right when he got it. 12K miles tranny shot, replaced under warranty (suprised they did), 20K miles, gone again, will not warranty it. Had it custom built (don't remember by who but I will see him this weekend) and so far so good at 40K miles. He knew he was killing it and could not blame dodge for it. I myself am addicted to the extra power and have put aside the money for a full suncoast tranny.
Ford did the same thing with the 6.0. That engine was being used with 0 problems. It was FMC who wanted to get into the high HP game to compete with cummins and duramax for the marketing numbers game and upped the hp and torque levels to the max limits of the 6.0. If you turn it down it will last a long time (IIRC, the safe rated HP was below 250 for that engine).

This is where edge's marketing sux. The website, manual, and display on the unit are all contradicting each other. I have been in contact with edge about this and haven't seen a change yet. Quote form edge "level 2 is probally o.k. to tow up to 5K lbs." Not the 12K load I was pulling : .The display says "2 towing" not "towing(under 5K)". I tow my boat on level 2 with no problems but I would not pull anything bigger without going back to stock.
As far as mileage goes I have not seen ANY kind of increase in mileage on level "1 economy", 14 mpg yesterday, 80% highway, cruise set on, 74, empty. On level 2 I average 15 mpg. Hand calculated, not impressed with the mileage on my truck and NO, I will never drive 60 to save a half gallon or 2.

As far as the error codes go I was having issues switching back and forth from levels 2 to 3 and after updating the unit on friday I have not had any problems since.

I leave mine on level 2. The truck seems happy with the extra power and shifts are good.(my good friend, a 6.0 owner, was grinnin from ear to ear after driving it) A transgo jr would definately help but as far as for longevity, with the extra power added it is just a matter of time.

I was pulling in Level 2 with about 12,000lbs and the transmission starts shifting kinda hard. When I talked to edge they said it was probably not a good idea with a stock tranny with kind of weight. Please remember in the manual it is 135 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels. Figure that at 80% efficiency and it is about 165 flywheel ft-lbs so that is about 815 ft-lbs of torque through a stock torque convertor and tranny. That is a lot. I am not saying it will fail but it will cause excess wear in that kind of power.

My LB7 ran in 70HP tune all the time when pulling. It was about an extra 180 ft-lbs say. That only puts it at 700 lb-fts at the flywheel. I put 170,000kms on it with that kind of load and you could notice the wear on the tranny. To me this is an awesome tranny. No stock tranny will pull that load every day and putting that kind of power through it.

All I said is to keep the load light and it will do less damage. The first time I slipped my LB7 was when I forgot I had 1500lbs in the bed and I had the 135 tune in it. I got on it to pass some cars and I limped it in 5th. The LBZ is going to be no different. You won't do as much damage if you keep it light with the bigger tunes and tone it down when you are loaded. If you are pulling your 4,000 lb boat put it in Level 2 and have fun but if your pulling a 12K Float be reasonable.

So if you are pulling more than the 5000lbs (say 13,000lbs), then use level 1?
