I was wondering if my evolution will work as a gauge for the EFI Live. I think that I want to get EFI Live as I don't want to have to settle for mediocre tunes and I think I will upgrade the tranny later this year.

I know that the EGT should be fine but everything else is taken from the truck's computer. When you are programming with EFI Live do you command different parameters or are you modifying sensors inputs and tricking the computer? I have a set of gauges from my last truck I can put in but if I can use the Evolution that would be nice because I can monitor four paramters at once and change them as I want to as well as having the alert function(sometimes I sleep a little).

this link HERE will let you download efilive software. then got to the repository and download a tune. open that tune and you can see what its all about.
no computer trickery here, you reprogram the computer. it uses the stock inputs and looks at the changed perameters to find out what to do.

What I meant was, How accurate is the information you are getting from the evolution/computer? Are guys running which the factory computer can't read (ie. more boost than the sensor is accurate to or out of its range)?

And duramaximizer, Your comments don't help. Why even bother posting? Let's not turn this board into some of the other ones on the Internet. This is a very informative site with a lot people who genuinely want to learn more about their trucks. Please keep things positive.

We don't encourage stacking or using the gauges from plug-in modules. Plug-in boxes "fool" the ECM - so it becomes impossible to use logged data to make changes because your readings are not correct.

We've also had reports that changes still appear in the ECM even on stock settings for both plug-in boxes and handheld tuners. What the differences are between actual gauge readings and plug-in displays? I don't know, some may be close enough to use, but when you read stories like this I don't think it's worth guessing. Yeah I was wondering how much to trust the stock computer. I also read another post about the boost sensor only reading to 29 psi. I think I will put in some gauges. They are sitting in the shop from my old truck but I was wondering if the evolution could just be used. I want to put the evolution in an overhead mount but maybe I should just put the gauges in the overhead mount. Better safe than sorry I guess.

I think you'll be happier with the combo of mechanical gauges and EFI Live...There is a lot of help available here once you get it...

I think I will go that route. Just need to upgrade the trans. My buddy's father owns a tranny shop but he hasn't done a built Allison before and is researching it. I am just reading about Nasty's dyno run... holy sh**.

There are actually a lot of members who run EFI Live with a stock transmission...One of the nice things about it is that if/when you decide to upgrade the trans., you already have everything you need to increase performance...

What Neens said. Only you are going to run your truck like you want to.
