Cool old vid. Thanks for posting.
I remember when the 6.5 came out. It was the best diesel out there for power, comfort, style. Ford and Dodge could not compare. The 6.5 TD was the truck that started the "Diesel Wars"
The Dodge had slightly more torque. But it was a slug. Ford had the NA 7.3 which sucked fuel and was underpowered as well. At the time a place I worked at had a Ford flatbed with 7.3 NA. They bought a new 6.5 TD with a flat bed.. The 6.5 was faster, hauled loads better and fuel mileage was a lot better. Nobody wanted to drive the old ford after they got the 6.5.

I like the 6.2:6.5 but i gotta disagree with ya Tommygunner. The 6.5 is better then people give it credit for but i would take a 5.9 over it any day. I have owned all 3 and still have my 6.2 and 7.3PSD but regret selling my p pumped 12v. Just my view..

I owned a 12v 3/4 ton Dodge w P pump for many years. As well as my 6.5. A few years ago someone put a much higher value on my old dodge than I did. It was a happy day to see it pulling out of my driveway, while sitting on a large pile of cash. No regrets.

Ha ha I don't. In 1992 I was 15 I had my eyes on a Full Size Chevy pickup but knew nothing of the wonders of diesel. I now am the proud owner of the 2 most misunderstood diesels in America The 'ol 6.5 and the 6.0. Take a guess which one is more expensive to operate...

I cant believe how clean that engine was. Never seen one that clean. Even after pressure washing my ol 96 6.5 to do the heads, when I had it. Great video.

I was under the impression for years that 1993 was the only year with a 6.5TD that was all mechanical??

I would trade my Opitmizer in a heartbeat for a 5.9 Cummins with the parts to swap it in.
