Hi, I have a 1996 C2500 7.4L, 1996 K2500 6.5td , 1999 k2500 7.4L, all suburbans with 4l80e.
I also have an "S" converted to "F" 6.5td with 4l80e from a 94 C1500 xc that I am going to put in the 96 2wd 7.4L sub.
If the torque converters are the same then I will leave the tranny in the 96 sub, otherwise I will swap out engine and tranny.
Are these torque converters all the same? Cannot get a staight answer so far.
These 3 part #'s come up the most 24204835, 24204836, 24217610.
I have found a lot of different part numbers and then sites that say to use the same part 23204835 in most applications 1994-2001 and then some.
I am hoping someone here has a better answer.
Thanks for any help.

I never took a big interest in auto tranies but I suspect that differences between torque converters of gas and diesel engines might be the stall speed?

Gassers typically have a higher stall.

Maybe a guru in the trans section might be able to answer this?

The 454's TC is going to have a higher stall. Im guessing you know, but i would also verify what gear ratio's are in the rear of the burb your swapping the 6.5 into. Being its a 96, if there different than what the 6.5 is tuned for, it may throw a P1871

Sorry, after re reading.. i notice your swapping a '94 setup into the '96. Assuming your keeping all of the OBD-I electronics. Would still verify ratio's tho.

The 96 gas burb has a 3.73 posi. but I am replacing it with a 3.42 from a 1/2 ton diesel burb. I also have a new Peninsular mechanical IP to replace the ds. I'm doing the Bobby Martin dual computer mod. I suspect the gasser has a higher stall but if that is the only diff. then I can leave the tranny in and replace the TC. Thanks for the response.

What is the bobby martin computer mod?

3.42 with a 6.5 is what I have. It always does between 20 and 25 mpg. Towing is not very impressive and I would not want to tow through the mountains but its not its primary job so I will take it.
