Seen a comment in another post .... Thought I'd start a topic for comment ...

The consensus is Pre Turbo install gives the most accurate reading in order to compensate for excessive Exhaust Gauge Temps, when at all possible .....

An Aft turbo pyro install will yield 200 to 300 degrees less difference approx. in temperature .... This can and will vary between trucks .....

Depending on the thickness of pyro probe will also contribute to quicker temp readings, thinner obviously the faster temp reader ....

What you are looking for with a EGT gauges with performance mods are extended duration's of high exhaust gasses .... This can happen with the power turned up while competing whether on the street, track etc; ....

Also while mildly enhanced and towing, for you haulers ....

A typical high sustained (not spike, short burst) egt should be in the 1100* to 1250 * as a rule of thumb .....

Happy Max'en

Mine is mounted post turbo ... does that mean it reads 200-300 degrees cooler than the actual turbo temperature. If so, I'd have to let it cool down to abut 100 degrees prior to shutting down ... sure haven't been doing that!!

Those of us that have mounted pre-turbo, most of us don't worry about turbo cooldown. These turbos are bulletproof. It's very rare to hear about a turbo going bad. You would know there was a problem if Mr.X started a turbo post and it went 9 pages

I think the only real thing you need to do is let the turbo spool down for a minute or so before shutting the truck off. That is of course if you pull ujp with the turbo making big boost. IKf your driving through a parking lot and pull into a space just shut it off.

Temps aren't so much an issue anymore on shut off. It's not having the turbo spinning at 25K RPM and turning it off and having the oil pressure go away.
