So how difficult is it to replace the EGR valve? This is on a 2002 3500.
California truck, and needs to pass smog. Had the light come on the other day.
Found the valve on gmpartsdirect.com for about $140.

You sure it's the valve? What is the code you are getting? More than likely its one of the solenoids near the fuel filter.

Hmm, when the light comes back on I will check it. I checked the code and cleared it about 5 days ago, and don't remember now what the code was. I think it was 4104, but not sure.

Ok, so the CEL came back on yesterday when towing. The code is a P1404. Sounds like that is a stuck EGR valve?
Yup. P1404 is certainly one of the solutions in the service manual.
