i am getting an edge evo tom and i got some questions?
1. i heard tht u dont have to get the 3ft extension to mount it in the overhead console and how hard is to install it there?

2. and when u install the egt probe wht about the shaveings it produses will it hurt the turbo if it gets in there?

3. also i am getting it from guaranteed auto parts for 430 has anybody done business with them? thanks

I can help with one of your questions. As far as the shavings from drilling and tapping the manifold for the egt probe, there has been a good write up on the "Hoot method" do a search on this it's probably the quickest way to install a probe and its safe if done rite.

take your time drilling and tapping the egt probe. The small shavings left inside the manifold can do damage, but most likely wont. the metal is fairly soft and the shavings are so small they will just pass through. But there is always a chance they would do damage, not a good chance though..

yes you can run the edge evo without the egt probe, but you want to watch the egts, they climb up there in 2nd and third setting... i have 4" straight pipe and they still climb to over 1000 when i get on it.

easy

Go to the search feature and look up the "hoot method" ANY shavings left in the manifold are potentially detrimental to the turbo

I do not recommend running any programmer without an EGT gauge especially if you tow anything.

Do not run this programmer without an EGT probe. You are crazy. You could easily melt your motor in one minute under the right conditions.

I don't think you can mount the evolution in the overhead console unless yours has a longer wire than mine. It won't reach. I have considered splicing my wiring to mount mine there.

I guess I should have clarified my response of "easy" due to the fact that I am in the "electronics industry" and extending the cable is just a matter of a good solder and heatshrink job with some belden 6 cond. 22 ga. cable. Guess maybe I assume too much sometimes.

Is there only 6 conductors in the cable? There are eight pins.

Sorry, I was just guessing from memory and it hasn't been that great lately:eek:: . I was just simply stating that it is just a multi conductor wire that can be picked up at any local electrical/electronics store for a few cents a foot and with a lil solder and some heat shrink the cable could be extended and the display mounted wherever. As long as you keep it as short as you need it signal degredation should not be a problem. I can look at it at lunch and give the part # for a compatible cable if needed.

Too bad we couldn't get the connectors and then an extension cable could be made.

I have run mine on level two (carrying a huge load -but not towing) and never see over 1100 deg. If that makes you feel better running it until you install the gage. It took me more time fishing the cable thru the firewall than drilling and tapping the exhaust. Real easy.

I second the fishing the cable through the firewall. Next time I am just going to drill a new hole throught the firewall and put a cable gland on it.

I must have got lucky because I had mine thru the firewall in about 30 seconds. I pushed it thru and my buddy used a flashlight and grabbed it when it came thru.

I had to pierce the rubber boot with a long punch, push a coat hanger thru, tape the wire to it and pull. I was alone though. Made a neat little bracket to mount low near lighter.
