E Range versus D Range

I have always run E-range tires on my 2001 Duramax for safety after rolling my TT down I-15 pulling it with a 1/2 ton Yukon... The issue I am totally cornfused about is that the E-range dinky tires my new truck comes with are rated for 100 lbs LESS than the D range stock tires that come on the H2... What the heck! Am I missing something?

I think that the difference is the max pressure that they are rated. I'd stick with at least E range if it was me. Insurance companies are always looking for a loop hole so they won't have to pay for accidents. Just my $.02

The load range E, D, ...on the tires is misleading. Look at the load rating instead. So yest, the H2's will carry more. For a given tire size, the higher the letter, the higher the load rating. For instance, my 365/65-16's are D's and rated at 3500 lbs each, but I have seen C's that are only rated for 3000 lbs.

That is what I am talking about.... But I don't want a problem with insurance etc either although they did not blink an eye when we rolled our TT (30 foot) with our new half ton Yukon either. (D range) Although the tires were fine...

One advantage to the higher load range tires is they roll better under load than the lower range tires. Even if they both have the same or similar load rating in lbs. So a smaller E tire rolls better than a bigger D with the same load rating.
